A Blog Azeroth Shared Topic from the lovely Akabeko of red cow rise:
Most everyone has a routine for when they play WoW, but do you have any habits that are particularly eccentric? Do you always log out in the same place, try on other’s gear when inspecting, or obsessively spam a macro or trinket at weird times? Out of game, do you have to crack your knuckles every time you take a flight path, put on your PJs in order to really get into the game, or tab out immediately upon wiping?
I like to play through zones with characters of the predominant NPC race in that zone. For example, I plan to play through the Alliance side of Kalimdor — Darkshore, Ashenvale, etc — with a Night Elf character, and I plan to play through the Horde side of post-Shattering Kalimdor with a Tauren character. I have been playing through Tirisfal, Silverpine, Hillsbrad, Arathi, W/E Plaguelands with an Undead. I want to play through the Alliance sides of the Hinterlands and Twilight Highlands with a Dwarf and of Outland with a Draenei. I want to play through Stranglethorn with a Troll. Elwynn, Westfall, Redridge, Duskwood — Human zones to be played through with a Human character. Dun Morogh, Loch Modan, Wetlands, Burning Steppes, Searing Gorge — Dwarf zones to be played through with a Dwarf character. I feel like I get the most out of the story of a zone when I play through it with a character for whom that story is part of her own racial heritage.
I may have been looking at NPCs and trying to figure out what they were wearing even before I started reading Kirina’s Closet. If I find an item that looks like something worn by an NPC that I think is particularly stylish, I’ll hang onto it. I have ridiculous collections of cool looking BoE (usually green-quality) items stashed away in the vaults of “Wardrobe Mistress” alts until I decide which character to bind it to and get said character up to the level required for her to actually wear it.
I’ll use the dressing room on almost all quest rewards, even the ones my character can’t actually use. I’ve thought about carrying around a spare tunic-style chestpiece in my bags so that I can more easily look at pants while I’ve got a robe equipped.
I also like to collect as many of the different colors of a particular style of robe or tunic as I can find. Kinevra, for example, has all of the color variations of the striped Shimmering Silk Robe style, and Kaelinda has all of the color variations of the Robes of Arcana style.
I collect shirts on all my servers — the full rainbow of plain crafted shirts and the Filigreed shirts or doublets at a minimum — and also newbie clothes, although those were more interesting when they were all cloth and the chests were shirts instead of actual chestpieces.
It’s not uncommon to have an itchy “print screen” finger, but perhaps how I use mine is a little unusual. I have a folder full of screenshots of interesting artwork from the game — a close up of the Warlock teleport circle, the cave paintings in Razorfen Kraul, the patterns on the floor of the Nexus. I have stayed in the Nexus or the Oculus for five or ten minutes after the run was over and the rest of the group had dispersed to take pictures of the patterns on the floors and walls. I also made BTH help me clear Halls of Lightning a week or two ago so that I could take pictures of the Azeroth globe in the Terrestrial Observatory and the constellation statues in the hallway between the second and third bosses.
Speaking of pictures, I’m sorry for all the broken images in my blog right now. The Photobucket server on which my primary account is located has been down “for maintenance” for the past couple of days, and it’s getting severely annoying. The Barbershop Guide pictures are on a different Photobucket account which must be on a different server, because those are all still visible, fortunately.
The quirk that’s driving me a little nuts right now is the conflict between wanting to have one free character space on every server (just in case), wanting to have all my Blood Elves together, and wanting to have all my semi-active Mages together. My Night Elf and Dwarf Mages are on Bloodhoof, and I’d have to delete my Draenei Shaman (not a great loss) to have a free character slot left after moving them to Argent Dawn. My Troll and Orc Mages are also currently on Bloodhoof, but if I moved them to Winterhoof, I’d have to delete my Goblin Shaman just to have room (again, not a great loss) and I wouldn’t have an empty character slot left. My Blood Elf Paladin continues to resist all of my periodic contemplations of deleting her, but I couldn’t bear to move her to another server because then my Blood Elves would be split up. If I did a combination server and faction transfer to make her a Dwarf Paladin on Argent Dawn, then I wouldn’t have a free character slot left on that server. WTB twelve character slots per server, por favor.
hi Kamalia, nice to know your quirks… Anyway, about the images in your blog i see that you upload most of it in photobucket thats what i used before most of the time they do that now maintenance but all the images is gone..
I suggest uploading your pictures in Flicker.com or Tinypic.com those are two sites I always upload my pics and works wonders…
but as a wordpress blogger You can actually upload your pictures in the system instead I recommend using it better than others sites that way they can track where the image is coming from.
Anyway, hope these suggestions are helpful.. Take care hon.
Thanks, Christine. I’m going to give Photobucket until the end of the week to get this resolved; if my images aren’t back by then, I’ll look for another place to keep them. I’d been thinking about Flickr or Picasa, but the WordPress function might work for me. Reuploading all my images and updating all those links is not a task I’m looking forward to, so I hope Photobucket gets its act together!
Just a warning about Flickr – there is a monthly upload limit that is pretty small (if you take as many photos as me…) unless you are willing to drop some cash on a paid account.
I collected a bunch of pretty robes, shirts, and wands on my nelf priest. I’m just sad that I don’t think to wear them more often…
I want to see your artwork pictures! I was really taken with basically everything in the Ulduar area, so I have lots of shots of those globes and constellation creatures as well
Yes, I really hope we get more character slots someday soon.
Too bad you’re only making Alliance on Argent Dawn. I would give you a home for your Hordies there.
A great place to put screenshots is http://scrntag.com/
