In honor of the coincidence of her birthday with the Oscars this year, Mataoka is hosting a movie-themed Transmogrification event:
Submit three mog outfits, (Mogit is fine) of three characters from one of your favorite movies, or from one of the award nominees this year…. This is not their Oscar or red carpet attire, but the costumes in the films.
I chose the Harry Potter series as my movie and the main trio not of students, but of professors as my characters.
Minerva McGonagall
Skywitch Hat, Mantle of the Tribunal, Embroidered Gown of Zul’Drak, Living Mojo Belt, Replica Virtuous Gloves, Sorcerer Slippers, Drape of Smoldering Dreams, Mahogany Wand, Dungeoneering Guide
Although she is the Head of Gryffindor House, whose colours are red and gold, Professor McGonagall is clearly described as wearing “emerald green” robes. In the movies, she wears a dark forest green outer robe over a black dress.
Severus Snape
Duskhallow Mantle, Silver-Thread Robe, Ivycloth Sash, Black Mageweave Gloves, Sorcerer Slippers, Warmonger’s Cloak, Arakkoa Divining Rod, Tears of Heaven, Green Martial Shirt
Professor Snape should be dressed in the deepest, darkest black possible. The combination of the sleeveless Silver-Thread Robe with a Martial Shirt produced a deeper black color in the sleeves than the Black Velvet Robes have. The gold filigree on the sleeves of the shirt helps harmonize the gold trim of the Warmonger’s Cloak — the deepest black cloak available — and on the edges of the mantle.
Albus Dumbledore
Elder’s Hat, Stiffened Corpse Shoulderpads, Robe of the Elder Scribes, Vestal’s Irrepresible Girdle, Soulcloth Gloves, Footfalls of Memories, Cloak of Woven Energy, Cookie’s Stirring Rod, Cosmos
Headmaster Dumbledore is supposed to be tall and skinny, but Human facial hair options are simply adequate for his long beard. Dwarves and Gnomes have better beard options, and I judge Dumbledore to be more of a Gnome-type personality than a Dwarf-type personality. Of course, he is also supposed to have hair on his head that is also long enough to tuck into his belt, but the beard is more important for a correct visual impression.
Bonus: Harry Potter-themed Battle Pet Team
OMG the Snape one is perfect, been looking for something like that
Thank you! And, you’re welcome! π
Out of curiosity, you haven’t found any outfits with a high collar like Snape wears have you?
In chestpieces, not so much. There are various cloth headpieces (mostly from Outland) that give sort of an Elizabethan ruff appearance, and some of the Cataclysm cloth shoulder designs create a look of a high collar around the back of the neck and head. But none of them that I can think of are black.
Have you read the Wheel of Time series? I was hoping to find a coat kind of like what I imagined the Asha’man wear (I can’t find a good picture of what I thought they looked like, something like this, higher collar, maybe double breasted) http://blogs.cofc.edu/thetruesource/files/2013/01/WOT_clothing_3.jpg
My husband is a big fan of the Wheel of Time series — I got him the complete set for his most recent birthday — but I haven’t read it myself (yet). The closest thing I can think of in WoW is the long coat that pirate NPCs such as Captain Hecklebury Smotts in Booty Bay wear… but alas and alack, such a coat is not available to players. It’s one of the things on my wishlist for sure!
Very nicely done. They all look like the original characters. And Dumbledore as a gnome, adorable. π
Thanks π
That Northrend dungeon set — one of the better looking color schemes for that style, imho — works surprisingly well for McGonagall.
Aye, in the context of the WoW races, a Gnome just works so much better for Dumbledore than a Human would. π
Great job they all look awesome.
I really like your Minerva look.
Thank you thank you!
I do love Professor McGonagall, so I was glad that I could find things to make a good McGonagall outfit π
This is so perfect. I especially love the Professor McGonagall one but Dumbledore as a gnome is inspired.
Thank you muchly!
They are all so perfect! Especially Snape!
Thanks! The pieces for the Snape outfit were what came to mind first as I was thinking about Matty’s prompt. π
I love it! Big fan of the Harry Potter books and movies and these characters π By the way: Did you use Mogit? New to it and just wondering if it’s possible to change hair style and/or color? Or just race and gender?
Yep, these images were created in Mogit. The addon only allows you to choose race and gender; I don’t know how it chooses the appearance if you choose to change race and gender away from your own character’s appearance. Sometimes I visit the barbershop before playing in Mogit so that I have the hairstyle and color I want for my outfit concept. For these outfits, I rolled up some new level 1 alts with the appearances that I wanted on my F2P secondary account. π
Oh, that’s smart π
They all look great Kam. I thought Dumbledore as a gnome was funny when I first saw it but the beard makes perfect sense. Even Snape’s expression is perfect. Although I don’t recall McGonagall ever smiling.
The pet team was an excellent touch. π
No, McGonagall doesn’t smile much — she’s one of those “a smile is a rare and precious reward” types — but with a WoW character model, what can you do? π
I was thinking about how Matty said you could use a companion/class pet as one of your characters, and suddenly I realized that there were the right sorts of battle pets available to make a team of Harry, Ron, and Hermione’s pets.
What a noob I am. I didn’t even notice the pets. Brilliant work Kamalia!
Well, the pet battle team was kind of a last-minute addition to the post, anyway π
Well, for someone described as “lean” in the novels, Dumbledore is…. Aaaaaa! A Gnome!
LOL! Unfortunately, none of the character models with “lean” body types have the right kind of facial hair available… π
Absolutely perfect! I actually just recently finished reading the series! I love these outfits. β€
Thanks π
Oh my Naaru! I LOVE YOU FOR THIS. Omg why haven’t I seen this before?
I recently got into Harry Potter, and this is just crazy good! Major kudos! Adding you to my fave blogs for sure π β€
Thank you muchly! XD
Before I got into WoW, I had a Harry Potter fanart site. Perhaps I’ll re-post a few of my very favorite pieces here someday.
This is so awesome! I love Harry Potter and I think you’ve made some great transmogs that really make me think of the characters! Awesome, awesome, awesome! π
Thank you thank you thank you! Your comment (and the similar ones left previously) tell me that these sets are doing what I wanted them to. π
Kamalia–what I love about your entries, and I think none of the rest of us did them this way–is that you went and made fully transmogable outfits! They have shoulders and gloves and everything! Hat’s off! π
I think the Hogwarts robes-and-cloaks style definitely helped with making fully Transmogrification-friendly sets. π For McGonagall, I wanted shoulders that would blend in, which the shoulders that match the robe do nicely. For Snape and Dumbledore, the shoulders ended up being an essential element of matching the overall look of the character.
Thanks!
I just realised Kam, I didn’t comment! But I think what i wanted to say was said by one of the people already here, and I know you love Harry Potter so (I seem to recall your knitted scarves… I think that was you!) and my favourite is Snape though Dumbledore is looking pretty awesome as a gnome!
Thanks, Navi! Yes, it was me that knitted the Hogwarts House scarves π
Love the Snape model! Is there a transparent type bracer that can be worn so I don’t lose the sleeve trim? I just KNOW they are going to dis-allow the mantle before I’m high enough to get that one!
Thank you! π
Try the Exiled Dabbler’s Gloves & Bracers (drop from Zandalari trolls on the Isle of Thunder) — those models display *under* bell-type sleeves and leave the hand bare.
I don’t see any reason why Blizz should disallow the Duskhallow Mantle from being moggable. It’s a drop from Magister’s Terrace — I don’t remember off the top of my head whether you need to run it on Normal or on Heroic to get them.
