I think I’ve seen just about all of shattered Kalimdor in the course of flying around doing Archaeology and I have discovered some rather disturbing things:
There are even tentacles in the Goblin starting zones!
And we all know about the Maw of Iso’rath by now, right?
I haven’t explored the Eastern Kingdoms nearly as thoroughly as Kalimdor and I don’t recall seeing any strange tentacles there, but still, it seems like the devs went a little tentacle-crazy.
The tentacles in the Southern Barrens are called “Grasping Overgrowth” and seem to arise from Naralex’s unfortunate efforts to revitalize the region by tapping into the (corrupted) Emerald Dream.
There’s nothing in the Goblin quest sequence to explain the appearance of tentacles and a Faceless One in Vashj’elan, but I suspect that they might be a consequence of the activity of the Naga in Vashj’ir — the revelations of the culmination of the Battlemaiden sequence.
Given their locations, the other two places are probably related whatever it is those Twilight nutters have been getting up to in Darkshore…
I really must find the time to do some at-level questing through shattered Kalimdor — from both Horde and Alliance perspectives — to find out just what in the Elements is going on here!
