gratuitous art post: curly-coat Tauren

May 24, 2011 by kamaliaetalia

It is my understanding that addons such as FlagRSP and MyRolePlay are intended to facilitate roleplaying by allowing a player to describe things about his or her character’s appearance that can’t be portrayed by the in-game character models — things like being taller or shorter than average, having a different body type, scars and/or tattoos, excessive jewelry (like a Draenei I know) or the complete lack of jewelry (useful for characters like Trolls for whom the model always has earrings), hair that is greying but mostly the normal color (so using the gray hair color wouldn’t be justified), pregnancy, signs of illness, fine details of clothing and other gear, et cetera, et cetera.

I’ve written before about how I think there just aren’t enough curly hairstyles in Azeroth, and something I’d absolutely love to see is ringlets, like those on the back of the Draenei “jeweled band” style or the Goblin “elegance” style, on a Tauren woman. I think I’d describe it in an RP addon something like this:

Where many other Tauren women have braids, Kaiuna’s hair hangs down in long, untidy ringlets. Likewise, the mane on the back of her neck is a disheveled mass of corkscrew curls. Even the tuft at the end of her tail is curly. If you can get close enough, or if you see her in Cat or Bear form, you can see that the short fur on the rest of her body is also wavy or slightly rippled-looking.

She is wearing a heavy leather jacket that appears to have been reinforced with pieces of tree bark around the ribcage.

In horses, curly coat is quite rare and has to be specially bred for. I think it might be more common in cattle, but I’m not certain. In any case, I think that curly-haired Tauren are likely to be somewhat uncommon, and it would probably be a trait that would run in one (maybe two) specific tribes.

Ahh, that is lovely! She makes me think more of a Greek minotaur with the curls. I actually have a similar complaint about hairstyles, and it’s why Millya has always had the short and sort of wild spiky/curly bob, it’s the nearest thing to really ‘curly’ hair available for draenei.

In ‘real-life’ my hair is really curly, though, so I am quite biased. More curls! šŸ˜€

      Thanks!
The way you draw Millya’s curly mop was part of the inspiration for how I drew Kaiuna’s bangs and mane. šŸ˜€
My hair would be rather curly, too, if I cut it short. I had it short while I was in high school, and my Mom thinks it was really cute and that I should cut it short again. I, however, prefer the ringlets it makes at the shoulder-blade length that seems to be the natural limit for how long my hair will grow.
