I was having enough trouble concentrating on the paper I was editing last Thursday already that it’s a good thing I’m not on Twitter, or I would have been even more distracted by the My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic Pony Creator that took the WoW Twitterverse by storm.
After I learned about it from the post at Flavor Text yesterday morning, well, that’s what I’ve frittered away the past two afternoons doing.
My first attempt at a Kamalia pony turned out very literally — translating my character’s appearance to the greatest degree I could. The blue color of her accessories represents both her Shaman class and the classic The Elements Shaman gear.
Then I decided to try to make a more figurative interpretation of Kamalia. I made her body blue to represent her Shaman class and her accessories brown to represent that she is of the Tauren race. The colors in her mane and tail represent the elements. While literal!Kamalia pony has the character’s eye color and a serene expression, figurative!Kamalia pony has my eye color and a tense “help there’s so much raid damage and ohmyhex the tank is going to die!” healing face.
Kerisa pony has both literal and figurative aspects. She spends most of her time either in Flight Form or Moonkin Form, so it was only natural that her pony should have wings. She’s more of a happy-go-lucky personality than Kamalia, which might come from being primarily DPS rather than a healer. Her white shoes with gold buttons represent the alternating moon and sun states of a Balance Druid’s Eclipses.
This is Kaelinda pony. Blood Elves always seem so tiny and delicate to me when I log into one after having spent most of my time playing Tauren. It’s hard to find good glasses for a character to wear in-game, and I’ve never particularly imagined Kaelinda as wearing spectacles, but somehow Kaelinda pony wanted them anyway to signify her scholarly pursuits.
And then I started thinking about how I might adjust the height, weight, and buffness sliders to represent the other races….
Can you guess what race is being represented by each of these ponies?
(Each of them also represents a specific one of my characters, but you don’t have to guess that!)

When the Celestial Steed was introduced, I immediately thought of characters who would want to have it. It still took me nine months to decide to buy it. I managed to convince BTH to get me the Windrider Cub for my birthday last year. I’d kind of like the Gryphon Hatchling, too, but I haven’t made any efforts toward getting it. When the Cenarion Hatchling showed up, I bought one right away because I’d been feeling frustrated that my attempts to donate directly to the Red Cross weren’t processing correctly. Well, that and I wanted a cute little hippogryph hatchling, but didn’t want to pay big bucks on Ebay for the TCG card. Now the Winged Guardian has arrived, and while I do think it looks pretty cool, I don’t think any of my characters have a particularly great desire to have one. I can’t really envision any of my characters as they are right now riding one. So I probably won’t be buying it, and if I do, it won’t be for quite a while.

Speaking of plushies such as the Windrider Cub, the Gryphon Hatchling, and the baby Murlocs, after seeing Vidyala’s adorable WHELP ON HEAD picture and Amber’s response, I think the next Blizzard plushie should clearly be a Whelpling — preferably a selection of whelplings, to allow us to choose our favorite dragonflight.
If I wasn’t 2000 miles away from my sewing machine, I’d be tempted to work on drafting a pattern for and constructing a stuffed toy Whelpling myself.
In order, I’m going to guess… Worgen, Dwarf, Undead, Human, Troll, Orc, Night Elf, Gnome, Goblin, Draenei. Unfortunately, I don’t know your characters well enough to name them. 🙂 CUTE!
Oh, oh, OH!!! I squeed!!! This is a wonderful distraction – thank you Kam!
@Apple gets a gold star!
@Pilf — glad to be of service! 😛
I figured out why Kaelinda pony insisted upon having spectacles! That particular hairstyle in that particular color must have subconsciously reminded me of the character Morwen from Patricia C Wrede’s “Enchanted Forest Chronicles”. Because she was smart, short, redheaded, and wore glasses, I identified very strongly with Morwen — I used “Morwen” as my first internet pseudonym.
Ooh I got this!
Worgen, Dwarf, Undead, Human, Troll, Orc, Night Elf, Gnome, Goblin, Draenei 😀
