Have… Have We Met? »

red, white, and blue

July 6, 2011 by kamaliaetalia

I missed getting this post up in time for the Fireworks Spectacular that closes out the Midsummer Fire Festival, but communities across the country will continue to have local celebrations, festivals, and fairs until early autumn. In my own home state, Utah, Pioneer Day (July 24th) is a bigger celebration even than Independence Day. Patriotic apparel will be in style all summer long!

First and second from the left, the Crimson Silk and Azure Silk sets created by tailors (shown with Sleeveless T-Shirt); third and fourth, the Red Linen and Blue Linen Vests provide a little more coverage (shown with White Swashbuckler’s Shirt); fifth and sixth, for a similar look with full coverage, use the Imperial Red and Regal chestpieces (shown with Captain Sander’s Sash). Kirina discussed these sets in her Engineer’s Explosive Extravaganza article.

These slightly dressier combinations use the Royal/Abjurer’s set (blue), Aurora set (pale blue-grey), and Astralaan pants (pure white & black). The belts are Captain Sander’s Sash and the Arcane Sash.

I love Akabeko’s idea for reviving the Engineer’s Explosive Extravaganza as a Goblin-versus-Gnome technology fair & competition. I discussed the base sets shown here (top left & bottom right) in my previous post about sporty, stylish sweaters. The red Crimson Tunic is Alliance-only, the red X-52 Pilot’s Leggings are leather, and the red boots are the Goblin Rocket Boots. The blue set is the Sage’s gear; the Gnomish Rocket Boots are identical to the Sage’s boots.

Where the previous sets were (mostly) cloth, these are leather. The red version is the Bard’s set. The blue version is the Outland-level Clefthoof set. The lower level, grey quality Warped Leather set is very similar to the Clefthoof set, except the gloves only cover the hands and the boots aren’t as tall. The black version of the belt is from the Bandit’s set. The pre-4.0.1 Alliance Warrior level 1 shirt & pants were a yellow version of this style of chestpiece and leggings.

Here are some red, white, and blue hats. Top row: Felcloth Hood, Aurora/Shadow Council Cowl, Azure Silk Hood; middle row: Crimson Felt Hat, Stylin’ Crimson Hat, Arcane Cover; bottom row: Red Pointy Hat, Mistscape Wizard Hat. There aren’t very many white hats in the game; it would be great if somehow PCs could get ahold of Belloc Brightblade‘s white fedora!

This outfit, being red, yellow, and blue, doesn’t quite fit, but I didn’t feel like making a separate post for it 😛 Bright Yellow Shirt, Blue Overalls, Captain Sander’s Sash, Mistscape Bracers — looks awesome with the Crimson Felt Hat. The bright primary colors of this outfit make me think of superheros….

Red and blue mail are relatively easy to find, but truly silver-white mail is more difficult. There are some pretty red and gold mail sets, though, again producing that red/yellow/blue superhero look. I’ve played mix-and-match with the Bloodforged chest & belt, Glimmering leggings, Outrunner’s chest, gloves, and boots, and Grunt’s gloves. The headband is the Starfire Tiara (cloth), a drop from a rare mob in Blackrock Spire. The outfit on the left also includes the Scarlet Filigreed Shirt.

Make your patriotism a little more Azeroth-specific with the Orgrimmar or Stormwind Doublets. The belt on the right is Sutarn’s Ring. A Simple Kilt would also look fabulous with any of the previously shown chestpiece & belt combinations.

For that final summer picnic touch, don’t forget your Balloon!
