Creating a Transmogrification Template Kit to match a particular tabard can be quite the challenge! Inspired by the splendid kits exhibited by the Mogolympics Flagbearers, I set out to make some TTKs to go with the Competitor’s Tabard. This limited edition item was only available during the 2008 Summer Olympics and was obtained by participating in a battleground, any battleground, win or lose.
Kamalia is my only character who actually has a Competitor’s Tabard, so I started by looking through her bank to see what she already had that would make a suitable outfit to wear with it.
Steamworker’s Goggles, Cyclone (T4) shoulders, Heroes Earthshatter (T7-10s) chest & kilt, Netherstrike belt, Nexus-Strider gloves, Blue Workman’s Shirt, Competitor’s Tabard, War Mace of Unrequited Love, Zom’s Crackling Bulwark/Stormshield of Renewal
For those who can wield 1H Maces, the War Mace of Unrequited Love is a great item to use with this tabard because it looks so much like a torch.
Overall, this set is okay with the tabard, but it actually works better without the tabard. If I were wearing it as a regular TTK without the tabard, I’d use the Renegade belt instead of the Netherstrike belt and perhaps Guiding Star instead of the WMUL.
Starting from scratch, I came up with these mail sets to complement the Competitor’s Tabard:
Dwarf: Princess Poobah’s Tiara, Towering Mantle of the Hunt, Lambent Scale chestpiece & leggings, Telaari Hunting Girdle, Barbaric Iron gloves & boots
Worgen: Crusader’s Pauldrons, Lambent Scale chestpiece & leggings, Myrmidon’s belt, Pillager’s gloves & boots
I used a similar color scheme for the plate design:
Swiftsteel Shoulders, Glowing Breastplate of Truth, Replica Lightforge belt, Flamewaker Legplates, Sunscale gloves & boots
For those plate-wearers who aren’t Blacksmiths and thus can’t craft the Swiftsteel/Dawnsteel shoulders for themselves, I recommend using the Glorious or Pristine Lightforge shoulders.
I tried several hats with this set, including the Polished Valor helm, the Warbringer’s Crown, the Glorious Headdress, the Crown of Empowered Fate, and the Glowing Wings of Hope. None of them seemed quite right to my taste, but one of them might be perfect for yours.
To bring out the ring design of the Competitor’s Tabard, wear the mail and plate sets with a Stylish Shirt of your choice.
There isn’t a lot of white leather around, and the Ghostwalker/Boneshredder set didn’t quite fit the image I had in mind, so I had to get quite a bit more colorful for the leather sets.
Adventurer’s Bandana, Spaulders of the Ring (blue)/Bonechewer shoulders (red), Protectorate Assassin’s Tunic, Cutthroat’s belt, Trickster’s (blue)/Wolf Rider’s (red) leggings, Gazlowe’s Gloves + Light Leather bracers, Moonstrider Boots
I like the way this set looks with a Sawbones Shirt/Red Workman’s Shirt underneath. The Cutthroat’s helm is another great choice for the hat.
Somehow not surprisingly, it was easiest to create a sleek, athletic sort of look with cloth:
Night Elf: Replica Virtuous Mantle, Mystical Armor, Serenity Belt, The Postmaster’s Trousers, Vicious Embersilk Gloves + Laughing Skull bracers, Outlander’s Boots
Human: Silksand Circlet, Swoop-Tail Shoulders, Mystical Armor, Serenity Belt, Sage’s pants, Earthmender’s Bracer of Shattering, Vicious Embersilk gloves & boots
These outfits only work with the tabard covering up the little purple vest of the Mystical Armor. The second design, modeled by the human, is my favorite of this whole set.
Oh I have to say the outfit with Princess Poobah’s Tiara is my fave. They are all fantastic outfits though Kam!
Thanks! I do love that hat π
I like the outfit on the Worgen in particular, but they all look good despite my dislike of tabards in general.
Thank you! π
Except for the cloth outfits, these sets would also work well without the tabard.
I don’t normally wear tabards myself but for this kind of occasion, it’s a given. Great job on all the outfits! There’s something about the Princess Poobah one that I like, as well as the leather gnomes and the right cloth version.
Nicely done Kam π
TY! I’m not much of a tabard wearer, either, but it sure can be fun to play with making outfits to match a specific tabard. π
I generally don’t like tabards but those mail sets are wonderful, I mean they make me actually want to wear the tabard if I had it!
XD That’s the effect I was hoping for!
Wow, what a great idea! My competitor’s tabard has been sitting in my bank for ages because I never had anything to wear it with.
TY! Transmogrification has definitely opened up the possibilities for wearing a tabard stylishly, instead of clashingly. π
My jaw dropped just a little when I saw the images. *pause for effect*
I never thought that tabard could look so good!
Thank you! That was my goal — to take a tabard that people might have trouble finding something to wear with, and make it look good π
