Karaelia looked over Magister Sunblaze’s shoulder as he leafed through the heavy book.
“Those symbols on the blade seemed familar,” he mused, “and now there’s little wonder why. The wonder is that I didn’t recognize this sooner! This is certainly a dragon blade, gifted to one of the mortal races, but which blade is this, and how did it come to rest in Icecrown?”
(The rest of this part of the story is very image-heavy, being told through screenshots of the event that happens next in the questline, so I have put it behind a cut)
As Magister Sunblaze reached for the blade embedded in the ice, an image of Blood Queen Lana’thel appeared!
The next instant, ice blocks trapped everyone in the area and the apparition began to speak.
The image of the San’layn Queen vanished, and the ice blocks vanished with her.
“Well!” said Magister Sunblaze, rolling his shoulders as if to shake off the lingering chill, “That was most surprising! I do remember that Lana’thel was a renowned and powerful enchantress, before she fell into the Lich King’s clutches. That memory spell that she set up to protect the blade must be why I didn’t even think to consult the dragons until you brought the hilt here, into close proximity with it. And it must be the second occurrence of proximity of the hilt that triggered that warning spell to go off? Or maybe it was the blade and the hilt and the book all being together? How ingenious and elegant! Though not exactly deterrent in quite the way Lana’thel had hoped, I think. We cannot allow Quel’Delar to remain broken and disgraced.”
