It wasn’t until I saw this Blizzcon interview summary that I realized that I’d totally overlooked the inexplicable absence of Mages from the Kul Tiran class listing. I guess I’d just assumed that it was so obvious that Kul Tirans would be able to be Mages that I didn’t look to see if they actually could.
So, um, now what class will I roll for my Kul Tiran? If I want her to be a clothie, so she can at least pretend to be a Mage, she’s going to have to be a Priest. I don’t care for the Druid forms… Oh hey, Kul Tirans can be Shaman? Hmm, maybe a Shaman?
Massive Kul Tirans are pure or half-blood Drust, the first people before humans came. So they tend to cling to nature magic (druidism and shamanism).
Kul Tiras itself sports a number of mages – most notably, Stormsong tidesages, but they tend to be humans.
So are the Drust a different offshoot of the Vrykul?
Kam got to level 112 the other day, so we got to do our first outpost and we chose the one in Stormsong; I wasn’t quite sure if the Tidesages we were fighting there were regular humans or Kul Tirans.
No, they’re not ancestors – just a different tribe of humans. When future Kul Tirans first arrived, the Drust already lived there and practiced their wicker magic (hence druids). They were brutal barbarians who waged war upon newcomers, slaughtered them with no mercy and eventually were defeated. Some of them were friendly though, but as personal choices, not faction-like. So their descendants and half-breeds are these massive humans.
Tidesages are an interesting combo of mages/shamans/priests. You can work with that š
Just in: Mage was incorrectly omitted as an available option for Kul Tirans in the panel and on the World of Warcraft website. While Kul Tiran Mages are relatively uncommon, there are a few prominent examples, and so Kul Tiran characters will be allowed to play as Mage.

Which means, of course, that there will be lots of Kul Tiran Mages — just as there are lots of other character types that are supposedly rare in the lore š
Indeed — that’s why I was thinking Shaman might be a good alternate choice of class.
Whew!
