What I’m trying with my Patch 10.0 Talents and UI, for now »

Kaiuna, Kazithra, and Kjella

October 26, 2022 by kamaliaetalia

Before logging in with any of my Four Mains, first I needed to create the new alts that Patch 10.0 made possible!

Kaiuna was originally a melee Druid alt, and she’s always had Rogue-ish tendencies (see Things My Druid Wears #2).

This Kazithra is Kregga’s niece, named after her grandmother (my sometime Shadow Priest character).

The “j” in her name is pronounced as a “y” sound.

“Kjella” looks like a Scandinavian name. Standalone “j” does read as “y”, but “Kj” would read as English “ch” (as in “chicken”) in Nordic languages πŸ™‚

Sorry for being a linguistics geek, your character = your rules, of course πŸ™‚

I have a cousin named Kjersti whose name is Norwegian-derived and is pronounced “Sheer-stee”
A couple of years ago, I had a student named Kjell whose name was, I think, Danish-derived and was pronounced “K-yell”
I considered both pronunciations and decided I liked the latter better πŸ˜›
Good to see you around! πŸ˜€

        Ty for the welcome:)
Well, I learned Swedish and heard many Scandinavians in life and movies in their native tongues, so I automatically read “kj” as smth in between “ch” and “sh” in these cases πŸ™‚ both names and common words. K-yell was the original pronunciation for sure, but I guess it assimilated to ch/sh through the ages, as languages go.
