A Blog Azeroth Shared Topic from Essence Enchanted, who wonders,
Inspired by Kalixta’s “WoW Recipe IRL” topic and the “World of Warcrafts” column over at WoW Insider, I started wondering, how many people are into making WoW-like things in real life? Not just food, though food could count too. But how many people create pottery inspired by WoW? Or wigs, or costumes inspired by WoW? Or even knit or sew things relating to WoW? Or are you a fan artist with pen and paper or pastels or clay? How about Machinmas? Comics? Stories?
Is there WoW inspiration in your life? Do you wear it proudly? Do you make it? Are you interested in it? This could go lots of ways–share what you make, or link to creations you’re fond of!
I love reading the WarCrafts column at WoWInsider; it’s so fun to see all the amazing things people have created.
I do a lot of WoW-related drawing (see the “Gallery” tab), but I’ve made a couple of WoW-inspired 3D creations that I’m rather fond of, as well.
I made this Druidmobile back in the day of the original Druid form artwork.
More recently, I made a plush toy Whelpling.
I’d like to make more Whelplings in the future, refining and iterating the pattern as I go along, until I have a set of five representing the original dragonflights.
I think it would be fun to make a WoW-inspired cross-stitch of some kind. Liala’s fabulous Stained Class designs would be gorgeous rendered in floss. Or perhaps one of Azeroth or Outland’s beautiful landscapes, so someone who wasn’t familiar with WoW would think it was just another fantasy scene when they saw it hanging in my front room?
ETA: Martha‘s post on making Azeroth-inspired custom model horse prompted me to think that if I knew anything at all about making tack for model horses, it might be fun to make a set of Paladin Charger gear for a model horse. Of the sculptures I already have in my collection, Justin Morgan, Lady Phase, the Proud Arabian Stallion, the Shire Stallion, or Galloping Friesian might be suitable. Dang, it’s been so long since I’ve looked at my collection that I’ve forgotten what all I have. I’ll have to go through it while we’re at our other apartment this weekend….
[…] of Kamalia et alia has a whole gallery full 2D artwork of plus a druidmobile plus a plushie! I cover the druidmobile muchly… but I have a feeling my cat would be much too interested in […]
I LOVE that whelpling. You’re so crazy talented!
Thank you! It was a lot of fun to put together, and not really all that difficult to do XD
I think you could get away with an Azeroth scenic shot without any problems, there are so many areas that look beautiful without being immediately identifiable as a computer game (unless you’ve been there, o’course).
The druidmobile is twelve kinds of awesome, I want to steal the whelp, and the stained class link—wow! I wonder if I could do one in the stained glass paint (since she mentioned that real glass might not work for some cuts). Hmm…
I’m amazed by the stuff folks have created on the WoWInsider column, I knew folks did cosplay and I’d seen the druid plushies before, but I had no idea there were so many people out there being crafty. I fell a little dense now, considering how long I’ve been playing. >.<;; (doh)
That mobile is great! Druid love ❤
XD It was a fun project, too.
