Making a Dual-Wielding kit with this staff for my Fury Warrior was an irresistible idea. I’ve saved this outfit to use for the “Summer” theme in the next Trial of Style.

Although Keija is not yet level 70 and has not been to the Emerald Dream around Amirdrassil, her big sisters collected the pieces of this set for her by planting Small Dreamseeds.

Playing Class Favorites at the Trading Post

Coming this fall to the Trading Post: Class-specific armor and weapon sets!

The catch, though, is that the armor sets are 450 Tender each, and the weapon sets are 500 Tender each, and one can only gain 1000 Tender each month. So, one armor set and one weapon set with 50 to bank for the next month, two armor sets with 100 to bank for the next month, or two weapon sets with nothing left over to bank for the next month.

Let’s take a look at the offerings. What do I want to get NAO, what do I want to hope comes around again next fall, and what’s a no-thanks?

Overall, stylistically a lot of the armor sets have resonances with previous favorite armor sets, and a lot of the weapon sets have resonances with Artifact weapon designs.

September
Paladin: armor set coloration is definitely chosen to coordinate with the Classic Judgment set, while the weapon set coloration is very Draenei (or the Burning Crusade recolor of the Judgment set); I’d go for both if my Paladin were a higher priority character in my roster, but since I want to save Tender for other stuff in later months, they will have to be a pass for now.
Priest: armor set is a definite NOPE since I don’t lean Shadow/Void aesthetic at all, from the weapon set the mace and book are nice but the staff is a nope; armor set is a hard pass, weapon set is a maybe later.
Rogue: armor set is a maybe later, cuz those shoulders would definitely look cool on my Pirate Ninja Tauren Outlaw; weapon set is a nope cuz my Rogues go for sleek instead of spikes on their blades.

October
Death Knight: nope, nope; the shoulders on the armor set are maybe okay but the rest is still outside how far I’m willing to go even when I do lean into the DK aesthetic for a DK Mog.
Demon Hunter: nope, nope; just not my aesthetic at all
Druid: armor set is a maybe later; weapon set is a YES PLEASE. Well, actually, I think the dagger looks kinda silly with the vines and leaves wrapped around it, but the two staves look awesome.

November
Warlock: nope, nope; just not my thing even when I do lean into the Warlock aesthetic for a Warlock Mog.
Monk: armor set is a maybe later; weapon set is a YES PLEASE. So pretty that I must have even though my Monk is a lower priority character on my roster right now. I love that the Brewmaster staff has both a teapot and a keg!
Warrior: like the Paladin armor set, the Warrior armor set is a maybe later; from the weapon set, I like the shield and the 1H sword but the 2H sword is not my jam, and it is also a maybe later.

December
Evoker: actually, I rather like both of these sets, but since I am not grooving with my Evoker — I do like to get each new class to the max level for the expansion in which it is introduced during that expansion, but that will probably not happen for my Evoker until the end-of-expansion lull — I would rather spend my Tenders on the other sets available this month.
Hunter: like the Evoker, these are both decent sets but I have to tag them as maybe later due to them sharing the month with two of my Big Three classes.
Mage: YES, YES; I think I might even have to wear the hat of this set to get the full three floating orbs look (a la Kael’thas), I’m not actually all that keen on the sword from the weapon set but the staff and off-hand are great.
Shaman: YES, YES; I can totally see Kamalia wearing that armor, and I really just want the shield from the weapon set because it has a great Shu’halo sort of look.

So, I’ll need to have 500 Tender to spend in October and 500 Tender to spend in November and somehow still have 1900 Tender available to spend by the end of December. Oh, and let’s not forget about the Medivh-inspired Guardian items that will be coming to the Trading Post in the autumn months, as well! That whole set will cost 975 Tender. I’ve been spending most of my Tender each month and putting an item on Freeze to purchase the next month — and there’s at least one purchase that I wouldn’t have made if these class sets had been officially announced earlier. I am going to have to be more picky with my spending for the rest of the year.

80) Golden Spines

Goldspine Plate set with Glorious Headdress and Anointed Crusader’s Claymore
Keija didn’t really want to look that silly for very long — and the antidote for excessive silliness is, naturally, spikes. Especially if you’re Horde.
I had been thinking that, like this Trial of Style armor set, this Trial of Style 2H sword was a recolor of an existing item, and I wanted to do a two-color dual wield with them. When I went to look for it, however, I couldn’t find it in the 2H sword list for items I do have or for items I don’t yet have. Maybe after this 2H sword model was first introduced in Trial of Style there was a recolor from the Trading Post which I didn’t get? I did a quick check with Kamalia and saw that Trading Post shields that she didn’t get don’t show up in her “uncollected” wardrobe list, so that could be possible.

74) Renowned Expeditioner’s Plate

After Kamalia reached Renown 14 with the Dragonscale Expedition and unlocked the Renowned Expeditioner’s sets for everyone, Keija spent just enough time in the Dragon Isles to collect 750 Dragon Isles Supplies to get this kit. I found Fury Warrior rather fun to play in the process and might level her all the way to 70 sometime later in the expansion.
This ensemble also looks rather hilariously awesome with the LFR Helmet of the Last Mogu.

Mayla’s actual chestpiece is the Ceremonial Leather Harness; I’ve used the original level 1 Horde Warrior shirt to mimic that look.

Apparently I like the Ancestral Chieftain’s chestpiece more than I initially thought — at least for my Warrior. I think I might be happy to leave her in this kit for quite a while.
Seriously, whomever thought of using the cloak slot for a Tauren totem is brilliant and deserves all kinds of kudos (or kodos, as the case may be?).

With the Heritage of the Shu’halo set appearing to be made of non-metallic materials, plate was the most difficult armor type to work with. This combination works well enough, I suppose.

These Zul’Aman pauldrons and pants coordinate quite nicely with the Horde appearance of the Battle for Azeroth crafted plate set.

66) MARVEL



Warhelm of the Bold, Pauldrons of the Promise, Lost Chestplate of the Reverent, Replica Belt of Heroism, Legguards of the Emerald Brood (N), Replica Lightforge Gauntlets, Hyperion Greaves, The Willbreaker, Crusader’s Shield
This outfit was built around the chestpiece. The Lost Chestplate of the Reverent, shown in the center, is a sort of combination of the Templar chestpiece, shown on the left, and the Runic Plate chestpiece, shown in the right.

Plate kits usually feel like they need shoulder armor to be properly balanced, so I chose these small, cap-like shoulders that still display much of the color of the shoulder and upper arm part of the chestpiece. These particular shoulders were mail prior to the beginning of Legion, and I’m still sad that a mail equivalent wasn’t added when they were converted to plate!

65) Bloodtotem Basher

Some of the Bloodtotem did not succumb to the Legion’s influence and become Feltotem. These Bloodtotem Survivors, of whom Kounaqiwa is one, now make their home on the outlying bluff of Thunder Totem where Ethel Waterwise lives.

Shoulderplates & Treads of the Chosen Dead, Bloodfist Breastplate & Legplates, Gleaming Celestial Waistguard, Fists of Thane Kray-Tan, Lotrafen, Blazing Wings
A half-baked attempt to look like a Val’kyr. I initially thought to use the Glorious Breastplate, but when I tried that, I just couldn’t get the rest of the kit to work out at all. This chestpiece has a slightly better shape match to the Val’kyr metal bustier, anyway.
The effect is a little better on one of the more human-like races.

And yes, I put my Demon Hunter through the effort of getting this toy from the Darkmoon Faire many moons ago specifically for the purpose of using it in this kit.

The Deathlord’s Understudy

There is among the tauren of Kalimdor a tribe named “Highmountain”, perhaps in distant memory of Huln and his kin. Along with the Bloodhoof, the Ragetotem, and the Grimtotem, the Highmountain are renowned as warriors who led out against and bore the brunt of the constant attacks from centaurs, harpies, quilboars, and gnolls. The most well-known members of this tribe are Jerrik, Melgromm, and Trag.

When, following Eitrigg, the warriors of the Horde assaulted the Broken Shore, not all of them were snatched away by Odyn’s Val’kyr. Among those left behind, fallen, was Kaiopeqa of the Highmountain tribe.

After raising General Nazgrim as the first of the new Four Horsemen, The Deathlord wondered if the Lich King had given her this power just to fulfil his ends… or if she could perhaps use it for her own, as well. For all of the tolerance and kindness that had been shown her by The Farseer and others, the friendships she had managed to forge — and despite having managed to locate and regroup several of the Grimtotem Ningha during her time at Frostwall Garrison* — she still felt lonely, somehow. Now, the burdens of being Deathlord weighed heavily upon her, and she desired an apprentice. Knowing of the warriors’ catastrophe from her friend The Battlelord, The Deathlord sent one of Dread Commander Thalanor’s aerial patrols to do some reconnaissance of the area and bring her back a test subject — preferably a tauren female, if they could find one. They brought her Kaiopeqa.

The Deathlord raised the Blades of the Fallen Prince over the corpse of the young tauren warrior and Kaiopeqa arose into undeath filled with horror and hatred and unholy bloodthirst.

The Deathlord promptly assigned her to collect the Maw of the Damned and Apocalypse. When her new apprentice had departed on these errands, The Deathlord heard the Lich King’s hoarse whisper in her mind: Very well, I shall let you have this one indulgence. But no more. This power is mine, to be used for my purposes and mine alone. You will use it only as I command.
The Deathlord replied: You are indulgent, my liege. I know how you allowed me to obtain these blades. I know how you permitted The Archmage to take Felo’melorn. I am satisfied.

The Deathlord watched and waited, patiently, as Kaiopeqa went through the same sequence of emotions as she herself had after being released from the Lich King’s grasp at Light’s Hope Chapel all those years ago. Horror and hatred sank into despair and depression. From those emerged, in time, a desperate need to control the sadism that had been inextricably imbued into the soul by the process of being raised as a Death Knight by channeling it into useful service to society**. When Kaiopeqa reached that stage, The Deathlord assigned Kaiopeqa and her tribesman Trag to respond to Archmage Khadgar’s request for heroes to aid the tauren of Highmountain.

The two Highmountain returned from Highmountain filled with more questions than answers concerning the origin of their tribe. More significantly, the experience had given Kaiopeqa a form of… not exactly peace… but consolation, perhaps.

“When I was in Tanaan Jungle”, Kaiopeqa told The Deathlord, “I saw the Eredar, and I saw the Draenei, and I felt sorry for what the Eredar had allowed themselves to become. It is better to be this and be able to continue to fight against the Legion, than to lie idle in the Earthmother’s Embrace and be unable to prevent all of our people from becoming like the Feltotem.”

* Aurochs Grimbane, Kaasa Blighthoof, Kilga Mourningsong, Tigar Frosthoof, and Tipa Rimehorn — all of them had taken new surnames that renounced their Grimtotem origins and embraced their identities as Knights of the Ebon Blade.
And then there was that taunka woman, Kaumaleia — though she hardly counted, either as a fellow Death Knight or as a friend. Kaumaleia had somehow managed to shake off almost all of the qualities of being a Death Knight except the unfortunate condition of being undead — and she managed to ignore even that most of the time, too. Kregga suspected that Kaumaleia had been one of the ice-shaman of her people before her death and raising, and that the similarity of that magic to the way in which a Death Knight wielded frost was what had allowed her to elude most of the corruption from the Lich King. Or perhaps the Lich King had never truly gotten ahold of Kaumaleia because she was so remarkably silly… Kregga could barely tolerate her.

** Death Knights love Dailies because those tasks give them ample opportunities to cause the suffering and death they require to quell their own pain.

9) Ancestral Warchief

I’m not all that fond of the chestpiece and leggings of the Shu’halo Heritage Armor, so I thought I’d try putting in a shirt and swapping out the pants for something else.
Kehontah will probably wear this outfit for a very long time.

8) Beefcake/Cheesecake

Kamalia’s parents were quite the lookers in their youth.
This fashion suits Tauren particularly well, I think 😉

7) Destroyer’s Fury

These shoulders are my favorite bladed plate shoulder armor design. The Pauldrons of Resounding Rings from Heart of Fear are my second-favorites. All the rest, to my eyes, look rather silly.

6) Jade Guardian

Although this set has gorgeous colors, I don’t like how the chestpiece and leggings look on female characters. Thus, the Male Tauren Warrior gets to wear it, instead.

5) Shall We Dance?

Using the cosmetic Nobleman’s items is perhaps a bit of a cop-out, but it was an idea that just had to be used.

4) Gaudy Treecutter

Going for a “Country Dad” look here with this outfit.
Around last Christmas, BTH persuaded me to run a few Mythic dungeons with him, and I was fortunate enough to snag this hat in the process.
After the Winter Veil holiday ended, he went back to being a Thunder Bluff Honor Guard.

3) Thunder Bluff Honor Guard

This NPC outfit has a plate chest, leather shoulders belt and pants, and mail boots. Although I’ve previously constructed a replica of this outfit using the mixed armor types as an RP costume, I wanted to try my hand at making a Moggable version.

2) High Society Gilnean Plate

I’d made new outfits for all my other plate-wearers, including the Dwarf Paladin, so I figured I ought to make a new real armor outfit for the Male Tauren Warrior, too. Because he has the Top Hat, I decided to put him into this “aristocratic Gilnean” outfit that I originally designed about five years ago.

1) Pretentious Purple

Perfect for a Warrior or Death Knight pretending to be a Paladin.
Because of the gender dimorphism in the appearance of the Saltstone chestpiece & leggings, I would not make this Transmogrification kit for a female character. Hence, the creation and boosting of the Male Tauren Warrior.

From the timestamps on my screenshots, I spent about twenty minutes jumping back and forth between Krasus’ Landing and Skyhold trying to get just the right angles on the animation.

There are a lot of nice Sin’dorei-themed weapons, so I made variations for all of the Warrior specs so that I could show more of them off.

57) Cold Rage

I don’t care for the Highmaul/Blackrock Foundry Warrior set as a whole, so even though I’d collected most of the lookalike pieces as a side-effect of trying to get the whole Paladin-lookalike set from follower missions, I didn’t bother to finish it. During the WoW’s Anniversary event in November, I saw a female Tauren DK wearing just the shoulders from that set with some other gear — I forget exactly what, maybe some of the DK starting zone gear? Anyhow, it looked awesome — awesome enough to inspire me to start running the Highmaul and Blackrock Foundry follower missions again until I got these shoulders — which were the only piece I’d been missing from the set.

It was about time that I made an kit for my Warrior that used her Arms Artifact weapon, Strom’kar, un-Transmogrified. With that sword’s history and reputation, it needed to use these shoulders, of course.

Because the 13th Anniversary event made these gloves available again, and I got them, naturally I wanted to use the set they go with. And of course it had to be a Prot set, because if one was a Warrior in Classic, one was a tank.

52) Stormwind Costume

Imperial Plate set with Pauldrons of the Promise, Girdle of Uther, Jouster’s Gauntlets, Crazy Cenarion Cloak, Blade of the Silver Hand, and Maximillian’s Shield
Before Warlords, when the Stormwind Set was made available through the Dwarven Bunker Garrison building, the crafted Imperial Plate set was the favored way to imitate the look of the Stormwind Guards.
These shoulders were mail before patch 7.0. I wish that plate lookalikes had been added instead of converting the mail items to plate, because I would still like to be able to use the blue and black versions of this shoulder style for my mail-wearers.

51) Needs More Spikes

Things my Warrior Wears, part 5 (outfits 41 – 50)

50) Twilight Dragonsworn

Whenever I’ve tried to make a kit with these pauldrons previously, I’ve always toyed with using these purple gloves and boots, then dismissed them as not fitting the concept I had in mind. Now that all those other ideas have been made, I can finally use them.

49) Wyrmrest Protector

I originally planned to make this outfit concept — red dragon shoulders & shield + Wyrmrest tabard — with my Paladin, but then I thought, my Warrior can use shields, too, so why should my Paladin get to have all the fun?
It always surprises me how dark and subdued the colors in these shoulders are. I think that the red recolor of the Warrior T1 set, with the belt from the red recolor of the Paladin T6 set, is a suitable intermediate shade of red to bridge the difference between the maroon of the shoulders and the crimson and scarlet of the tabard and shield.

48) Farmhand

Several years ago, I daydreamed, “Oh, if only Fury Warriors could use Titan’s Grip to dual-wield with polearms and staves — wouldn’t DWing a shovel and a pitchfork, or a shovel and a broom, or a pitchfork and a broom, be totally [awesome]?” Well, now they can — and the Warlords Garrison gave us some lovely Transmogrifiable Garden tools.

47) Semi-Doomplate

Noble Plate Pauldrons, Breastplate of Vaulted Skies, Brawlgoth’s Choker, Flintlocke’s Piloting Pants, Gauntlets of the Vanquisher, Obsidian Greaves, Old Dwarven Hammer
I’d thought to perhaps use the Pauldrons of Abyssal Fury in a kit with these pants and boots, but somehow that idea didn’t quite work out for my Warrior as well as it had for my Paladin. So I used these shoulders instead, and ended up with a kit that is an approximation of Thrall’s classic Doomplate armor.
As far as I know, player characters can only obtain these pants and boots that are exact lookalikes of the Doomplate. The Warbringer’s set is a recolor of the Doomplate, and its shoulders are the closest match to Thrall’s shoulders. I like the style of these shoulders better, though.

46) Champion of the Sha’tar

Alas, I didn’t fulfil the requirements to get the “Hand of A’dal” or “Champion of the Naaru” titles back in the day, and now they are unobtainable.
Due to its garish coloration, I had not planned to ever collect this Burning Crusade dungeon recolor of the Paladin T1 set. Then I thought about making a kit with the Sha’tar mace and Sha’tar tabard, and it occurred to me that perhaps this purple and red armor might be just the thing to wear with that purple and red tabard…

45) Azure Dragonsworn

If this outfit looks very similar to my Paladin’s recent “Bold & Brassy” outfit, well, that’s because this is a concept that I worked up while creating that kit — then decided that I’d rather use for my Warrior’s blue Dragonsworn outfit, instead.

44) Ruby Dragonsworn

Somehow, this kit just needed to use Ashkandi.
The purples of the High Chief’s set work quite nicely with the maroons of the shoulders, chestpiece, and leggings in this kit. I wanted this to read as a red outfit, not a purple outfit, though, so I opted to bring in some brighter reds instead. Those burning orange eyes in the helm also help to brighten up the overall look of the ensemble.

43) Emerald Dragonsworn

This chestpiece was mail before Patch 7.0. Now that it’s plate, it combines nicely with these Warrior T5 recolor pants to produce a nice dragon-scaly look for this outfit.
Although I didn’t use hats in the kits I made for my Paladin and Death Knight using the Hour of Twilight shoulders, I couldn’t resist how splendid the combination of this hat and these shoulders looks.

42) Meeting of the Clans

Pauldrons of Morbidus, Durotan’s Battle Harness, Salt-Scorched Girdle, Crystal-Studded Legguards, Grash’s Fireproof Handguards, Greaves of the Traitor, Chainlink Towel, Gorehowl
The notion of making a kit using both the Warsong heirloom Gorehowl and the Frostwolf heirloom Durotan’s Battle Harness amused me. Hence, another attempt at making an Orc-like outfit to use with Gorehowl.
The chestpiece has a patch of lime-green accent color between the shoulderblades on the back. I found that quite distracting; fortunately, the very short Chainlink Towel cloak was just perfect to cover it up while still being coherent with the rest of the kit.

41) Warsong Legacy

40) Royal Peacekeeper

I had the idea to make a purple and gold kit to go with this purple and gold weapon. The relatively muted tones of the colors in the weapon prompted me to choose this chestpiece & leggings, which also have a relatively muted gold tone. I think that’s what saves this kit from being glaringly garish — though it’s still probably somewhat garish.

39) Oathsworn


The Oathsworn set is the gear that a Warrior is shown wearing on the new character selection screen. It is obtained in-game from the Warlords Garrison Salvage Yard.

38) Sixteen Tons

A long-awaited mining outfit for my miner. I’ve kept putting it off to make other, newer ideas, but it has turned out better for the delay. In the beginning, I just knew that I wanted to make a kit with the mining hat and pick. I hadn’t really thought of anything else that I wanted to use in the outfit until I started to put it together. The Warlords chestpiece and boots, along with the Wrath PvP shoulders that I only acquired after they became available for gold, combine to make an appropriately gritty, grimy kit.

37) Fel Reaver

36) Apolyon’s Fury

This sword, claimed from Kil’jaeden at the Sunwell, somehow seemed the most appropriate weapon for my Fury Warrior to use with the plate Demon Invasions set.

35) Everbright Truesteel I

So I thought to myself, if I liked the combination of the maroon Elder Tortoiseshell and stage 2 Truesteel items so much, the combination of the periwinkle blue Everbright and stage 3 Truesteel items ought to be equally attractive. For version II, see the Paladin page.
While creating this outfit, I also discovered that with the new Appearances feature, Horde characters can now use the appearance of Admiral Taylor’s Greatsword for Transmogrification. Hurrah!

34) Lord High Admiral



Fleet Commander’s Hat, Stockade Pauldrons, Overlord’s Chestplate & Legplates, Girdle of Uther, Gauntlets of the Vanquisher, Obsidian Greaves, Martial Shirt (any color), Forgotten Champion’s Blade, Admiral Taylor’s Greatsword
Horde characters can’t use the appearance of Admiral Taylor’s Greatsword for Transmogrification, but they can equip it — so Keija kept it equipped from the moment she solved the mystery of Admiral Taylor’s Garrison in Spires of Arak right up until she got her first Artifact weapon at the beginning of Legion.
An Alliance Protection Warrior or Paladin should use Revilgaz’s Cutlass and Wheel of the Lost Hope with this kit.

33) Truesteel & Truesilver




Truesteel Pauldrons Waistguard & Boots (3-670), Truesilver Breastplate, Imperial Plate Leggings, Replica Gauntlets of Valor, Steelforged Greataxe (2-645), Admiral Taylor’s Greatsword
I especially wanted to use the 3-670 Truesteel shoulders, so the rest of the set had to grow from there. I really liked the similarity between the filigree on the Truesilver Breastplate and the filigree on the weapon and Truesteel armor. The Truesilver blacksmithing patterns are no longer available in the game, so you’ll have to find someone who already knows the pattern or get lucky on the AH. If you can’t find the Truesilver breastplate, the Chivalric Chestguard coordinates excellently with the rest of these pieces, though the overall look of the outfit will be darker.
Horde characters can’t use the appearance of Admiral Taylor’s Greatsword for Transmogrification, but they can equip it.

32) Regal Truesteel

Spaulders of Manifold Eyes (N), Truesteel Breastplate & Greaves (2-655), Elder Tortoiseshell belt gloves & boots, Crimson Silk Cloak, Ramkahen Ceremonial Hammer
This alternative combination of the Truesteel and Elder Tortoiseshell items was created by Silverblade of World of MogCraft. It was the best looking kit using the T12-Paladin (lookalike) shoulders I thought I’d ever seen, and it impressed me enough to actually go farm them up to make the kit for myself.
The only difference between this kit as I have made it and the way Silverblade originally designed it is the weapon. Of the weapons I already had on hand, I really like the royal scepter look of the Ramkahen hammer, and its colors coordinate well with the armor, too.

31) Truesteel Tortoiseshell

Another example of the remarkable color palette coordination between Warlords crafted items and Mists items. The shirt fills in a gap between the bottom of the sleeve of the chestpiece and the top of the gloves.
