Archive for the ‘Void Elf’ Category

What with Alleria Windrunner being so much a part of the origin of the Void Elves, I thought it only right for Kaelyla to be the first go do the Hunt for the Harbinger with her.

I appreciated that there were acknowledgements of my character’s Void Elf identity in multiple places throughout the quest text. Naturally, then I needed to go next with Kaelinda to see how those bits of quest text differed for other races — would it just be Void Elves vs everyone else, or would there be some special reaction from the Ren’dorei for Sin’dorei characters? Well, there wasn’t, so I may or may not get around to doing this with Kamalia and Kerisa before the War Within pre-lauch event. After all, on Thursday, Pandaria Remix will begin…

The emphasis on the Void Elves, their activities at Telogrus Rift, the schism with the Blood Elves, and the sentiments of individual Ren’dorei who do or don’t want to be reunited with the Sin’dorei seems to be laying groundwork for the return to Quel’danas in the Midnight expansion.

So, I understood why we went to Galakrond’s Rest, and I understood why we went to Eredath, but I didn’t quite get why we went to Ulduar in between those two places, except perhaps to give us a hint that there will be big stuff going down at Ulduar sometime later? Writing this, I recall that the introduction of the Worldsoul Saga at Blizzcon did say that the Last Titan will bring us back to Ulduar.

It was interesting that there was the Halls of Valor graphic blocking the Ulduar raid entrance during the Hunt for the Harbinger quest that brought us there; was that just a visual kit update, or is it a hint that we might get to really and truly kick Odyn to the curb during the events of Last Titan? And I get why there was a reference to southern Kalimdor — Anh’Qiraj and Uldum and all that — but what’s up with the references to Zul’Aman? More hint-hinting at events to come in Midnight?

The denoument of the questchain implies that K’aresh (the homeworld of the Ethereals whom we first encountered way back in Burning Crusade) also had a world soul. The fate of K’aresh really lays out the stakes not just for War Within but also for the Worldsoul Saga as a whole.

Well, well, well.
Invites for the War Within public alpha are going out, and the NDA on the War Within select content creators alpha has lifted, and information from the alpha is flooding Wowhead.

Between Blizzard Watch revealing this in their spoiler-coy headline and Wowhead revealing that in their spoiler-coy headline, the first major story beat of War Within is pretty well spoilt even without reading the articles.

I am quite excited about the Warbands concept, and I also quite like the Warbands group picture character selection screen idea. I’ve gotten really used to using the character selection screen to take nice clear pictures of outfits for the Sunday Mog Show, though — even if many of them have really terrible backdrop lighting and need levels adjustment — and I’m going to have to think about where is a place in the game with good, clear, even lighting that I can use to take outfit pictures for the Sunday Mog Show after the Warbands character selection screen goes live.

It seems that Dracthyr will be allowed to be more than just Evokers at some point in War Within. I’ll confess that I haven’t properly played my Evoker enough to understand how her abilities fit together, and that for me, the most fun thing about being a Dracthyr is Soaring. So if I can be a Dracthyr Mage (or Druid or Shaman) and Soar around, that might make being a Dracthyr more appealing to me than being a Dracthyr Evoker has been.

Customization previews for the new Allied Race, the Earthen, are up, and I find myself just as uninterested in rolling one as when they were first announced at Blizzcon. There’s another new race, which I don’t recall from Blizzcon coverage, that has enough customization options to potentially be a later-in-the-expansion Allied Race. They’re called the Harronir, and they appear to be some sort of bat-eared… porcupine? people. Not interested. In fact, I’m Not Interested enough in either of these new Allied Races that I’m once again, as I was right after Blizzcon, contemplating pruning the Minor Mages roster down to characters whom I’ve had for a very long time, characters I have written stories about, and characters of races whose Heritage Armor I would like to maybe get someday — just to break out of the “gotta catch ’em all”/”must have one of everything” mindset.

The most intriguing thing, to me, of what’s fountained out of the alpha thus far is some new ear customizations. Half-Elves are well-established in WoW lore: the High Elves Vereesa and Alleria Windrunner both have Human husbands and Half-Elf children, and Kalecgos is a Half-Elf in his Visage form. With the “Short” ear length customization currently available, Blood Elves and Void Elves can already RP as more elf-like Half-Elves. The “Pointed” ear customizations that have been discovered for Humans and Kul Tiran Humans will allow for RP as more human-like Half-Elves. Or, perhaps, they could allow someone to RP as a full-blooded Eversong Elf with a stouter body shape. The “Round” ear customizations that have been discovered for Blood Elves and Void Elves seem like a workaround to allow someone to RP as a Human with a more slender body shape.

I’ll save my thoughts on Transmogrification stuff that’s been previewed so far until the Season 1 Class sets for my three favorite Classes have all been shown; so far, only one of them has been written up.

The idea of Timerunning as a rapid alt leveling mechanism is certainly intriguing — but if I could port my existing under-level-70 alts into Timerunning at their current levels, instead of creating new alts specifically for that game mode, it would be even better!

One idea I’ve been entertaining for making new alts is using Timerunning to create and level male Blood Elf and Void Elf characters to be the SOs of Kaelinda and Kaelyla. They’d probably both be Mages because I’ve already illustrated them that way — though I have facetiously contemplated making Kaelinda’s SO into a Warlock because he works in Silvermoon’s finance bureau and finance is Teh Evel, amirite?

Something important to consider, though, is which of the Timerunning cosmetic rewards that have been previewed so far I am most interested in acquiring.
The Halfhill Famer’s Backpack is amusing enough for me to want to pick it up even if I only use it in a Sunday Mog Show outfit once. That’ll require completing the Valley of the Four Winds Timerunning meta Achievement.
The Class Armor sets and Class Arsenal sets that unlock by completing the Landfall (Patch 5.1) and Isle of Thunder (Patch 5.2) Timerunning meta achievements, respectively, are recolors of the Trading Post sets that were available during the last third of 2023. I acquired the Mage Armor & Arsenal, the Hunter Armor, the Druid Arsenal, and the Monk Arsenal from the Trading Post. The new color scheme for the Mage Armor is called “Sin’dorei Magister’s” so of course I gotta have it. I find myself about as interested in the other Class Armor sets as I was before. Of the Arsenals, I am most interested in the new color scheme for the Druid weapons. The new color scheme for the Mage weapons is also quite nice — but I haven’t managed to use any of the Battle Magister’s weapons from the Trading Post in a Sunday Mog Show outfit yet. The new color scheme for the Monk weapons is lovely, too, but not quite to the level of “oooh must have!”

If I did Timerunning with a Vulpera Monk and a Kul Tiran Druid, in addition to the Eversong Elf fellas, I could pick up the other Class Armor & Arsenal sets I’m most interested in, and when those toons get ported back into the regular game after Timerunning ends, I ought to be able to get the Heritage Armor for those races.

Timerunning will be competing, however, with the War Within lead-in storyline and its associated cosmetics collection activities. So if I only have time & attention this summer for one Timerunning toon, it’ll most likely be Kaelinda’s SO.

A collection of Transmogrification Kits actually worn in-game by my Void Elf Mage. Outfits are listed from most recent to least recent. Items that are no longer obtainable are marked with an asterisk (*).

130) Locus Researcher

Wrathful Gladiator’s Silk Amice, Wrathful Gladiator’s Silk Raiment, Wrathful Gladiator’s Cord of Salvation, Silent Slipper of Meditation, Aluneth (Balance of Power, tint 2)
This outfit is worn by various Ren’dorei NPCs. I’ve been meaning to have Kaelyla wear it since I created her, so the Patch 10.2.7 questline to join Alleria Windrunner in a search for the mysterious Harbinger and Dark Heart artifact was a perfect opportunity to do just that.

129) Solemnity II

Simple Glasses, Mantle of Contained Corruption (LFR), Black Mageweave Vest, Fabulously Flashy Finery, Cloudburst Sash, Frontline Necromancer’s Leggings, Hexweave Gloves (stage 3), Volatile Walkers (LFR), Staff of Natural Fury
When Khrysanthemina first showed up (#34), I wasn’t quite sure who she was. Since then, she’s informed me that she’s Ishaleron’s kid sister.
This outfit is an update of Blood Elf Warlock #67.

128) Cravat Couture

Eye of Flame, Duskhallow Mantle, Plunderlord’s Waistcoat/Sky-Captain’s Masquerade Coat/Gilnean Noble’s Vest/Waveborne Diplomat’s Vestment, Fel-Infused Grips, Shrouded Cloth Belt, Sky-Captain’s Masquerade Pants, Plunderlord’s Muckscrapers, Electrocutioner Leg, Shadowtome (stage 1)
Frilly cravats keep popping up as a design detail in recent Cosmetic coats, so I thought I’d try to find a set of other items that would work with all the coat styles that have one. The tie on the Gilnean Noble’s Vest is a plainer cravat style, but I included it anyway. The trickiest piece to work into the ensemble was the Waveborne coat, since its color scheme is so different from the others.
This handsome fellow is Kaelyla’s husband, Ishaleron. Although he didn’t share his wife’s academic interest in the Void, he was with her, supporting her work, as she studied Telogrus Rift with Magister Umbric’s group, and so he got caught in the Incident that resulted in the transformation into Ren’dorei.
I didn’t take a whole month to wear this collection one week at a time, though — Kaelyla wore the red version as herself for most of the interval, then I cycled through the rest of the variations with the Barbershop and the MogYak in an evening, ending with Kaelyla as her(AU)self again in the brown version.

127) Seasons of Amirdrassil: Winter

Crown of Everlasting Fortune, Frigid Conservator’s Shoulders, Frigid Conservator’s Wrap/Frost Sapling’s Adornment/Faewoven Branches/Night Courtier’s Bulb, Frigid Conservator’s Gown, Frigid Conservator’s Mitts, Frigid Conservator’s Sash, Frigid Conservator’s Slippers, Frigid Conservator’s Wand, Frigid Conservator’s Implement
The “Frigid Conservator” version of the Emerald Dream outdoor activities set, which is labeled as “Superbloom” in the set list but could drop from any of the three Emerald Dream weekly quest reward satchels, is definitely Winter.
When the Emerald Dream butterfly wand was first previewed on the PTR, I just knew I would someday need to pair it with the moth backpack from Ardenweald. Not terribly surprisingly, the Winter coloration of the Emerald Dream items coordinated best with the Ardenweald item. I shouldn’t have been so surprised that the Ardenweald vine filigree butterfly wings also look gorgeous with the Emerald Dream set.

126) Seasons of Amirdrassil: Autumn

Crown of Autumnal Flora/Eternal Orange Rose, Maple Tender Mantle, Henri’s Warm Coat/Ochre Ornament of the Grove, Maple Tender Robe, Maple Tender Gloves, Maple Tender Sash, Maple Tender Slippers, Wand of Brisk Dusks, Verdant Aspirant’s Torch
The “Maple Tender” BoE zone drops version of the Emerald Dream outdoor activities set is definitely Autumn.
Although there are five colors of this ensemble — the fifth is the corresponding PvP set and has a black and deep red Druids of the Flame theme — there are only four colors of the pinecone off-hand, not five, and one of them is the PvP color. I earned the Honor that I spent to get this coloration of the pinecone off-hand from doing a few days of the most recent WoW’s Anniversary version of Alterac Valley to slowly accumulate HKs toward getting the PvP tint for the Hidden appearance of my Legion Artifact weapons.

125) Seasons of Amirdrassil: Summer

Crown of Boundless Courage, Summer Soother’s Shoulders, Summer Soother’s Wrap/Circlet of the Mother Tree, Summer Soother’s Gown, Summer Soother’s Mitts, Summer Soother’s Sash, Summer Soother’s Slippers, Summer Soother’s Wand, Summer Soother’s Implement
At first, the “Summer Soother” quest rewards version of the Emerald Dream outdoor activities set seemed more Spring-like to me because of its lighter green and pink colors, but then it occurred to me that those colors are like roses and azaleas.

124) Seasons of Amirdrassil: Spring

Eternal Pink Rose, Ceremonial Jacaranda Branches, Ceremonial Jacaranda Cape/Dreamcatcher’s Crescent, Ceremonial Jacaranda Gown, Ceremonial Jacaranda Gloves, Ceremonial Jacaranda Belt, Ceremonial Jacaranda Sandals, Ceremonial Jacaranda Bloom, Breezekeeper’s Pinecone Scepter
The “Ceremonial Jacaranda” Emerald Bounty version of the Emerald Dream outdoor activities set at first seemed more Summer-like to me because of its darker green and purple colors. After some thought, I eventually came around to thinking that it could be Spring because those colors are like crocuses and irises — and jacaranda trees do bloom in spring.

123) Spellflower II

Crown of Boundless Courage, Nightvale Mantle/Summer Soother’s Shoulders, Circlet of the Mother Tree/Summer Soother’s Wrap, Spellfire Robe, Summer Soother’s Sash, Nightvale Footwraps, Rapture/Summer Soother’s Wand + Beautiful Wildflowers
This pretty robe is a Burning Crusade Tailored recolor of the Priest T2 robe. I’ve been wanting to revisit an outfit I made with this robe many years ago for my Human Mage (see Human Mage #41) with my Eversong Elves, and the light green and pink Emerald Dream items seemed like they’d coordinate beautifully.

122) Infinte Black Rose

Eternal Black Rose, Gilnean Noble’s Mantle, Sky-Captain’s Masquerade Coat, Fel-Infused Grips, Sky-Captain’s Masquerade Pants, Sky-Captain’s Masquerade Boots, Admiral Taylor’s Cutlass, Bouquet of Dried Flowers
After many years, the broadsheet began receiving letters complaining that the adventures of the White Rose had become repetitive and tiresome. Between these lackluster reviews and the broadsheet’s flagging circulation, something needed to be done. And thus, on a dark, stormy night in a lonely castle, the White Rose succumbed to temptation. The next several installments were consumed with emotional turmoil, introspection, and self-discovery as she found that, indeed, the exceptional abilities that had been granted by her vow of purity were no longer hers to call upon — but she now had access to new, different, and equally powerful exceptional abilities. The circulation of the broadsheet soared and its letters section filled with spirited reader debates about the merits of the new themes the Black Rose was able to explore relative to the betrayal of having broken her vow to her previous patron. After a few years of Black Rose adventures, however, the readers became nostalgic for the White Rose… and the Black Rose began to miss who she had once been. But the woman who had broken the vow could never become again the woman who had not broken the vow. Or could she? A minor recurring character began to take on a more and more prominent role, until it was revealed that they were a Bronze Dragonflight agent! The Timewalker in turn revealed that the companion who had persuaded the White Rose to break her vow, and who had been at the right hand of the Black Rose throughout her subsequent adventures, was an Infinite Dragon in visage form! And all the things that had happened during the past few years, starting with that dark, stormy night in that lonely castle, had taken place in an alternate timeway…

121) The White Rose of Avaloren

Eternal White Rose, Waylight Shoulderpads, Sky Captain’s Masquerade Coat, Fel-Flecked Grips (M), Sky Captain’s Masquerade Pants/Shrouded Cloth Belt + Noblewoman’s Skirt, Renathal’s Battlefield Slippers, Admiral Taylor’s Cutlass, Kaldorei Sentinel’s Spyglass/Bouquet of White Roses
Somewhat to my surprise, the white rose turned out to be the most difficult to think of a good outfit concept to go with it. There is lots of lovely white gear in the game, but how to combine it with the white rose in a way that would feel novel, fresh, unique? This was not exactly what I expected. I like it, though. It feels like it has a story behind it… perhaps a long-running broadsheet serial melodrama whose heroine is often tempted, but never fully swayed, from the vow of purity that grants her exceptional abilities…

120) Festival Flights of Fancy

Nightvale Cowl, Endowed Mantle, Festival Dress, Harvester’s Court Slippers, Whizblast Walking Stick
The last time I really played around with the Lunar Festival apparel was in 2022 (see Blood Elf Mage #125 and Void Elf Mage #57), so I looked to see if Dragonflight Mogging had given me any new things to do with the Lunar Festival gear. The Patch 10.1 shoulders do look nice with the Lunar Festival Dresses!
This set of accessories works equally well for any of the other colors of the Lunar Festival Dress.

For this year’s Lunar Festival Pant Suit outfits, see Blood Elf Mage #196.

119) ChronoTrekking

I: Wayward Chronomancer’s Clockwork with Time Lord’s Mantle, Golden Mobile Timepiece, Wild Gladiator’s Mageblade (A), and Titanic Hourglass

II: Time Lord’s Hood, Wayward Chronomancer’s Metronomes, Time Lord’s Robes, Gild’s Crewneck, Golden Mobile Timepiece, Wayward Chronomancer’s Synchronous Belt, Wayward Chronomancer’s Strapped Boots, Rimefang’s Claw, and Titanic Hourglass

III: Hood of Swirling Senses, Wayward Chronomancer’s Metronomes, Mantid Vizier’s Robes, Golden Mobile Timepiece, Wayward Chronomancer’s Synchronous Belt, Volatile Walkers (LFR), Fang of the Leviathan, and Titanic Hourglass

IV: Wayward Chronomancer’s Chronocap, Rime-Rift Shoulders, Winterborn Tunic, Golden Mobile Timepiece, Belt of Ominous Trembles, Wayward Chronomancer’s Pantaloons, Conjuror’s Slippers, Empowered Shortsword of Insight, and Titanic Hourglass

V: Wayward Chronomancer’s Chronocap, Time Lord’s Mantle, Mantid Vizier’s Robes, Golden Mobile Timepiece, Wayward Chronomancer’s Synchronous Belt, Volatile Walkers (LFR), Meditation’s Muse, and Titanic Hourglass
The Dragon Soul, Siege of Orgrimmar, and Amirdrassil Mage Tier sets all have a time magic theme, magitek aesthetic, and blue/silver LFR color scheme

so playing mix-and-match with them seemed like a thing that must be done. I did actually wear each of these mashup sets out and about around Valdrakken and the Dragon Isles for at least a few days.

118) Gilnean Upper Crust

Gilnean Noble’s Suit with Gilneas Tabard, Wayward Chronomancer’s Strapped Boots (LFR), Electrocutioner Leg, Bouquet of Red Roses, and The Countess’s Parasol
This outfit has something of a Final Fantasy-esque look (or perhaps just the general anime/manga clothing aesthetic).
For Worgen characters, the Worgen Heritage Armor is, to my eye, a more handsome set. For non-Worgen characters who want to cosplay a higher socioeconomic class than the Nobleman’s Coat & Pantaloons or the Duskhaven Dress, this will do.

Can’t decide between Lord Walden’s Top Hat, Eye of Flame, and Forever Lovely Rose? The Gilnean Noble’s Top Hat allows you to use them all!
Oh hey, the Forever Lovely Rose is Moggable year-round now? When did that sneak in? Thanks, devs! 😀

117) Alliance Champion of the Coliseum

Lost Crown of the Arcane, Khadgar’s Shoulderpads of Conquest, Vestments of the Sleepless, Silver Covenant Tabard, Khadgar’s Gauntlets of Conquest, Wizard’s Belt, Boots of the Grieving Soul, Blade of Tarasque (H), Chalice of Benedictus
Participating in the Alliance-focused story about the reclamation of Gilneas in Patch 10.2.5 seemed like a good enough excuse for Kaelyra, a Quel’dorei who was away from Eversong Woods at the time of Arthas’s attack and never left the Alliance, to don the Alliance version of the Trial of the Crusader Mage Tier set.
For the Horde version, see Blood Elf Mage #193.

116) Battle Magister’s Arcana

Battle Magister’s Orbs, Battle Magister’s Epaulets, Brilliant Hexweave Cloak (stage 2), Robes of Arcana*, Battle Magister’s Belt, Archmage Slippers, Warmage’s Spire
I saw the combo of the Battle Magister’s items with this robe on another player’s character and thought it was absolutely perfect. Although the Tailoring pattern for the Classic Robes of Arcana disappeared in Cataclysm, the robe appearance was still available as the Charged Robes from one of the more amusing, albeit somewhat frustrating, new questlines in Azshara.

115) Battle Magister’s Brilliance

Battle Magister’s Orbs, Battle Magister’s Epaulets, Merciless Gladiator’s Silk Raiment, Spellbound Specimen Handlers (M), Battle Magister’s Belt, Kavan’s Forsaken Treads, Aluneth (Balance of Power, first tint)
To me, at least, this was the absolutely obvious thing to be done with the Trading Post Mage Class set items. Definitely an upgrade from Blood Elf Mage #4 over a decade ago!

Here’s an alternate version with Crystal-Claw Gloves (LFR), Unassuming Slippers, and Blue Workman’s Shirt.

114) Harbinger of the Nightfall

Moonless Hood, Moonless Shoulderpads, Coerced Wizard’s Cloak, Ren’dorei Mantle, Demonic Gladiator’s Silk Handguards (A), Darkmoon Harlequin’s Belt/Ren’dorei Belt, Moonless Trousers, Shadowmoon Treads, Voidsong
In the wake of the Blizzcon 2023 announcement about the Worldsoul Saga and Xal’atath’s role as Harbinger and primary villain (at least for the first installment of the upcoming expansion trilogy), naturally I wanted to try my hand at a Xal’atath-inspired outfit using the November 2023 Trading Post capstone reward staff.
If I’d done the Crucible of Storms questline in Battle for Azeroth that results in Xal’atath, the entity, being released from Xal’atath, Black Blade of the Empire, the Legion Shadow Priest Artifact, then I could use the Gift of N’Zoth as a headpiece for this kit. But with meta-knowledge of the questline from Wowhead and Blizzard Watch, I chose to not have any of my characters — not even my Warlock — actually do it. I didn’t want to be the one responsible for that bad bargain. Still, this outfit felt like it needed to have some sort of Eye of N’Zoth reference in it, and the Darkmoon Harlequin’s Belt fit that bill quite neatly.

113) Chiquita Catrina

Haliscan Brimmed Hat, Death Speaker Robes, Noble’s Fancy Boots, Staff of Earned Tranquility/Electrocutioner Leg + Bouquet of Orange Marigolds
Awhile back, I was trying to find a suitable off-hand for an outfit and discovered that somehow or another, I didn’t have a Bouquet of Orange Marigolds. I patiently waited for Day of the Dead to arrive so that I could get one. You just never know when orange flowers will be just the thing an outfit needs.
Sadly, I didn’t think of using the Mesmerizing Fruit Hat until after the holiday was over.

112) Space Between The Stars

Heritage of the Ren’dorei with Harvester’s Court Hood, Phylactery of Dead Conniver, Fabulously Flashy Finery, and Aluneth (PvP, tint 1)
Perhaps because I’d recently done the final encounter of Aberrus in LFR, this name occurred to me as a possible name for a Tauren Warlock outfit I was working on that used this backpiece. I immediately thought, however, that it would make a much better name for a Ren’dorei Heritage Armor outfit, and came up with a different name for the Tauren Warlock outfit.

111) Deadfolks’ Drinking Dirge II

Purple Brewfest Hat, Choral Amice, Phylactery of the Dead Conniver, Choral Vestments, Warlock’s Mitts, Vicious Fireweave Belt, Sirensong Trousers, Shadow-Stitched Stalkers, Gorewrought Spellblade/Bottomless Brewfest Stein, Terrific Tankard O’ Terror
An update of an outfit I made at Brewfest last year (see Void Elf Mage # 78), now that I have the purple Choral shoulders and tunic.
It’s so silly how this huge tankard clips right through my toon’s leg. That kept me from acquiring one for quite a long time. It was what this outfit needed thematically, however, and there were even some on the AH with this year’s iLevel — an upgrade compared to the off-hand frills Kaelyla already had — and a very affordable price.
This silly huge sword from Maldraxxus somehow seemed just the right thing to go with the silly boots and the silly huge tankard.

I have one Blood Elf Mage toon and one Void Elf Mage toon, by which I mean a unique avatar data file on Blizzard’s servers. Thanks to the Barbershop, I have, over time, created several Eversong Elf Mage characters, by which I mean a combination of visage, personality, and RP story. These characters are distinct individuals in RP space — not manifestations of dissociative identity disorder (such as exhibited by Shallan in Brandon Sanderson’s Stormlight Archive series) — and I could (and maybe someday will) draw a picture of them all doing something together.

~*~*~

Character Name
[pictures: usual appearance first, then common variations; home-faction visages first, followed by opposite-faction visages]
skin tone, face, default hair style, hair color, eye color, earrings
Brief character description.

Since Void Elves received natural hair color and skin tone customization options, I’ve also imagined how each character could be represented using either type of Eversong Elf. Blood Elf customization values are labeled as “H” (Horde); Void Elf customization values are labeled as “A” (Alliance).

~*~*~

Kaelinda

H:3,8,8,4/3/5,5/10,9
A:9,16,7,10,5,4
First Blood Elf Mage.

Kaelyla

A:3,8,8,6/5,5,4
H:2,8,20,12,10,14
First Void Elf Mage. BFFs with Kaelinda since their adolescence.

Kaelydia

H:5,2,15,2/1,1,11
A:11,10,4,9,3,5
First alternate character to appear, when the golden eyes for Blood Elves were initially introduced as a face customization option. Older sister of Kaelinda’s boyfriend. Married to a Draenei.

Khrysanthemina

A:19,9,3/6,7/8,7,5
H:13,1,17/11,13/16,11,3
This Void Elf alternate character appeared as soon as natural skin tones became available to Void Elves because some purple outfits just want to have purple hair to go with them; many, many years ago I read a webcomic that featured a character with brown skin and purple hair. Younger sister of Kaelyla’s husband.

Kaelyla-AU

H:11,8,20,6,5,14
A:17,16,8,11,5,4
This is what Kaelyla looked like before she got transformed into a Void Elf; it could also represent an alternate timeway in which she never got involved with Magister Umbric’s group.

Kateleina

H:12,7,19,15,4,10
A:18,15,10,11,7,3
A staunch Sunreaver who was a natural fit for the Necrolords when she Maw-Walked in the Shadowlands.

Kaelyra

A:7,11,1,12,3,1
H:1,3,13,7,9,1
A Quel’dorei who never left the Alliance. Champion of the Kyrian during her time Maw-Walking in the Shadowlands.

Kelonara

A:21,2,4,15,9,2
H:15,9,4,1,12,2
This character appeared when the Dark Ranger customization was introduced; she typically models Venthyr or San’layn-themed Mogs.

Kaelinda’s Mother

H:9,8,7,10,7,5
A:15,16,9,14,3,1
Like Jacob Marley, she is canonically “dead as a doornail”, having perished during Arthas’s rampage toward the Sunwell. Thus, she can only appear in outfits and locations that are plausibly flashbacks (or an alternate timeway); at the [original] time of this post, she [had] only been seen twice (Blood Elf Mage #127, 151).

Kiarabella

H:10,4,18,10,7,13
A:16,12,9,14,3,5
Another blonde Eversong Elf Mage, albeit without story-related restrictions on how she can appear, she shares hair and eye colors with Kaelinda’s mother, but has a different face and the ruddiest skin tone just because I wanted to use it.

A collection of Transmogrification Kits actually worn in-game by my Void Elf Mage. Outfits are listed from most recent to least recent. Items that are no longer obtainable are marked with an asterisk (*).

110) Whodunnit?

Brown Tweed Cap/Tasteful Eyeglasses, Emerald Vest, Lucky Shirt, Archmage Gloves/Heavy Linen Gloves, Archmage Belt, Archmage Pants, Archmage Slippers, Befouled Staff/Tyr’s Titan Key
Kateleina claimed the first half of the Secrets of Azeroth treasure/scavenger hunt on account of her resemblance to Carmen Sandiego; after the Brown Tweed Cap had been obtained, Kiarabella claimed the second half of the event on account of her resemblance to Mary Russell.
Alas, the Researcher’s Magnifier is a 1H Mace and cannot be used by a Mage! WTB an off-hand with this appearance, plzkthx!

109) Where In The World…?

Mirren’s Drinking Hat, Suffused Vestment, Soulbreaker’s Ebony Handwraps, Drake Racer’s Belt, Suffused Leggings, Endowed Slippers, Ebonchill (default, tint 4)
I am old enough that the first two Carmen Sandiego games from Broderbund are a fond memory of my elementary school years. Thus, when Matt Rossi noted the superficial similarities between the publicity blurb description of the “Secrets of Azeroth” event and the exploits of Carmen Sandiego, I just had to try to make a Carmen Sandiego outfit using this hat!
Of the items I have available in my Wardrobe, the Suffused items gave the most trenchcoat-like profile, albeit rather more rococco than Carmen’s sleek style.

This picture shows the Secrets of Azeroth event clue-following and treasure-finding Toys: Tricked-Out Thinking Cap, Torch of Pyrreth, and Idol of Ohn’ahra.

108) Queen’s Conservatory Ball

Crown of Everlasting Fortune, Faewoven Amice, Faewoven Raiment, Queen’s Conservatory Ball Gloves, Cobalt Watcher’s Cord, Azure Valdrakken Boots, Ebonchill (default, tint 1), Sparkle Wings
Would a ball at the Queen’s Conservatory disturb the slumber of the resting spirits with its clamor, or accelerate their regeneration with its merry energy?

107) Mystical Phoenix Warrior Princess

Nightvale Cowl, Fireplume Plumage, Ragged Azsharan Sail Fragment, Crumbling Ceremonial Vestments, Cloud Coalescing Handwraps, Fireplume Insignia, Fireplume Coverts, Underlight Conjurer’s Treads (N), Draconium Sword, Symbol of Transgression
This ensemble is a cloth iteration of an outfit that my Monk had been wearing for several weeks (see Monk #78).
As I looked for accessory pieces for this variation of the ensemble, it got kind of over the top and silly — but I like it!
This appearance is an “Alliance-AU” High Elf Kaelinda using the customization options available to Void Elves. Void Elves are due for a round of customization updates, I think, particularly in the area of earrings and other jewelry, to bring them up to par with the options Blood Elves have!

106) Shady Customer

Battered Jungle Hat/Onyx Glare-Reducers, Treasure Nabbin’ Bag, Shifty Merchant’s Tunic, Black Mageweave Gloves, Clutch of Andros, Frontline Necromancer’s Leggings, Archaeologist’s Quarry Boots, Widow Blade, Fire Runed Grimoire
Since Kaelyla is spending most of her time at the Valdrakken Black Market Auction House these days, she wanted an outfit that would let her fit in a little better with the rest of the clientele there.

105) Red Mage, Blue Mage (Titan-Touched)

Red: Suffused Cowl/Starfire Tiara*, Drake Hunter Shoulderpads, Ruby Wings of Awakening, Blessed Ohn’ir Robes/Crimson Silk Vest + White Swashbuckler’s Shirt, Azureblade’s Work Gloves, Sky Saddle Cord, Wind Soarer’s Breeches, Ancient Crosswrapped Sandals, Titan Keeper’s Gladius, Earthpact Scepter

Blue: Diadem of the Spell-Keeper/Windchaser Coronet, Cobalt Watcher’s Shoulderpads, Azure Wings of Awakening, Cobalt Watcher’s Vestment/Azure Silk Vest + White Swashbuckler’s Shirt, Cobalt Watcher’s Handwraps, Cobalt Watcher’s Cord, Cobalt Watcher’s Leggings, Cobalt Watcher’s Sandals, Empowered Shortsword of Insight, Thrumming Celestial Arrangement
The Dragonflight dungeon and World Quest sets display the familiar Horde Red, Alliance Blue color dichotomy.
The unusual color-block styling of the pants prompted me to make a tunic version of the outfit, too.

104) Lady in Purple

Wanderer’s Snowy Scarf/Wanderer’s Violet Scarf, Wanderer’s Snowy Cloak/Wanderer’s Violet Cloak, Lovely Purple Dress, Fine White Evening Gloves, Khadgar’s Kilt of Abjuration, Ivycloth Boots/Silent Slippers of Meditation, Scepter of Lost Souls, Reinforced Lavender Bottle
Naturally, I had to finish off the series with the last color of the Lovely Dresses. See also: Blood Elf Mage #163 (Black) and Blood Elf Mage #173/Void Elf Mage #100 (Red/Blue).

103) Imperfect Illusion

Cloudscorcher Cowl, Underlight Conjurer’s Aurora (LFR), Snowblind Vestments, Underlight Conjurer’s Gloves (LFR), Underlight Conjurer’s Charmbelt (LFR), Snowblind Footwraps, Warpcaster’s Staff
With some pieces from the LFR version of the Aberrus Mage Tier set and some pieces from the Highmountain leveling set, one can make a pseudo-version of the Shal’dorei Heritage Armor. Hopefully it’s good enough to get at least one or two other players to do a double-take when they see it!

102) Celestial Temperance

Tasteful Eyeglasses, Arachnidian Pauldrons, Celestial Observer’s Starshroud, Garments of Temperance, Moonpriest’s Sash, High Councillor’s Boots, Scimitar of Seven Stars (LFR), Tears of Heaven
This robe also looks quite nice with the Moonpriest’s Sash.
I’ve been wanting to combo this cloak and this sword together for some time, and this outfit seemed like a good opportunity to use that idea.

101) Infused Waters

Aspiring Aspirant’s Hood, Theryssia’s White Gown, Sea Sculptor’s Cuffs, Moonpriest’s Sash, Nightvale Leggings, Blessing Bearer’s Waders, Tyrhold Pinnacle
To give myself a bit of a Mogging challenge, I decided to try to make an outfit or two using the belt from the Alliance Darkshore Warfront set. The Moonpriest’s Sash sits low enough on the hips that it can’t be used with just any chestpiece. The robe needs to have some design element that can visually anchor the ornamental buckle. I liked how it looked with this Val’sharah robe.

It’s nice this month that Children’s Week is early enough in the month that doing Holiday activities will actually be a significant contributor to collecting my Trading Post currency for the month, rather than being things I do after I’ve finished it off just for the fun of it.

I’ve already picked up the Wanderer’s Snowy Trappings and the pretty High Priestess’s Ceremonial Drape. The Lost Crown of the Arcane was an immediate must-have, too, seeing as how it is a recolor of one of my all-time favorite Mail Tier helms, the Crown of Flame from Firelands. I have the Magenta Cloud Serpent frozen from last month. I could get it this month if I choose not to get the Trial of Valor cloth set recolor or the Stormheim Vrykul leather set recolor. Knowing that stuff I’ve passed on will eventually come around again makes me feel less fretful about that decision.

As far as Children’s Week goes — I think I’ve done both the Classic and Cataclysm versions for both factions (because I seem to remember noticing the differences the first time I did the new versions); I’ve done the Burning Crusade quests for both factions; I’ve done both of the Wrath of the Lich King neutral options; but I was feeling burned out on Holidays during Battle for Azeroth and haven’t done the newest Children’s Week quests yet. So to do Children’s Week activities for the Trading Post, I guess I’ll start with the Zandalari and Kul Tiran orphans; to get the most out of that, I should go do them with characters who need XP, maybe my Druid and Human Mage. Then I think Kaelinda ought to go take Salandria to see her future self, and I haven’t quite decided which orphan to choose to round out the four for the Trading Post activity. My six characters who are doing the Wrath Dalaran fishing dailies in hopes of getting a Battered Jungle Hat have all chosen orphans to accompany them, to make the Trading Post activity for turning in dailies while accompanied by an orphan very easy to complete.

Here are my plans for Patch 10.1 tomorrow: BTH has an obligation on Tuesday nights, so while he’s out, I’ll log onto his account with his alt who is in my me-myself-and-I guild and invite my Void Elf Mage and my Dracthyr (who is Alliance to keep my Characters page more neatly organized :P) into the guild. I managed to finish up the lore questline in the Forbidden Reach (which I always want to call the Forgotten Reach, a name which is equally appropriate) in the past couple of weeks. I’ll probably do the first quests to go into Zaralek Cavern and fly around picking up all the new Dragonriding glyphs — and then I’ll set it aside for awhile. I’m still working on Dragonscale Expedition and Valdrakken Accord Renown and haven’t unlocked all of their 10.0 story content, and I think I’d like to complete that before I do the Zaralek Cavern lore questline.

A collection of Transmogrification Kits actually worn in-game by my Void Elf Mage. Outfits are listed from most recent to least recent. Items that are no longer obtainable are marked with an asterisk (*).

100) Lady in Red II/Lady In Blue

Red: Wanderer’s Snowy Scarf, Ferocious Gladiator’s Silk Amice (H), Wanderer’s Snowy Cloak, Lovely Red Dress, Fine White Evening Gloves, Crazed Traveler’s Legwraps, Warm Red Woolen Socks, Vengeful Gladiator’s Battle Staff
Blue: Wanderer’s Snowy Scarf, Ferocious Gladiator’s Silk Amice (A), Wanderer’s Snowy Cloak, Lovely Blue Dress, Fine White Evening Gloves, Cobalt Watcher’s Leggings, Sage’s Boots, Apostle of Argus
The red version is an iteration of the outfit in which Kaelydia first appeared (see Blood Elf Mage #59).
The white items from the Trading Post inspired me to revisit it — and also to make a blue version — both of which are also iterations on a similar oufit I recently made using the Lovely Black Dress (see Blood Elf Mage #163).

99) Channeled Flows

“Rhinestone” Sunglasses, Waveborne Diplomat’s Puffed Pauldrons/Ascended Squallspires (LFR), Waycrest Inquisitor’s Cloak, Compressed Cultist’s Frock (LFR), Gloves of Raging Tempests (Primal Empowered), Aqu’sirr’s Swirling Sash, Suspicious Slippers, Staff of Restraint
Although I made the version of this outfit with the Waveborne Diplomat’s Puffed Pauldrons first, like it better, and wore it longer, I also made the version of this outfit with the Ascended Squallspires so I can eventually put this outfit in a collection of All The Mage Tier Sets — because this chestpiece is actually from the Vault of Incarnates Priest set.

98) Embrace the Crazy

Oblivion Cultist’s Robes with Crazy Cap and Flamecaster Botefeux
The Ny’alotha raid set from Battle for Azeroth could be collected, in lookalike form, without ever setting foot in the raid by participating in the outdoor N’Zoth Assaults in Uldum and Vale of Eternal Blossoms. Although this set is really rather a Nope for me, in the spirit of wearing each raid set that I’ve collected at least once, here it is. I still had to trade out the hat; this one has suitably coordinating colors and a very coordinating name.

97) Besties

Crown of Boundless Courage, Green Wedding Hanbok/Dark Green Wedding Hanbok, Kurkenstoks, Farmer’s Broom
Kaelinda and Kaelyla have been BFFs since their late adolescence, and though the expulsion of the followers of Magister Umbric from Silvermoon strained their relationship for awhile, they worked through it.
I would love to see Children’s Week expanded by allowing the adventurer to sponsor orphans of both genders at all of the participating orphanages.

96) Elune’s Bard

Moonpriest’s Vestments with Elune’s Wrath and Winterborn Harp
This was the combo that immediately came to mind when I thought of using Elune’s Wrath with a Mage.
It’d look fabulous on my Night Elf Mage, of course,

but the Shadowlands harp still requires level 48 to Mog, and the chances of Keriluna ever accomplishing that are slim at best. Update: I was able to dress Keriluna in this outfit when Patch 10.1 lowered the Mog requirement for Shadowlands items to level 10.

95) Dragon Isles Mauve

Drakewatcher’s Armor with Historical Perspective Shifters, Obsidian Cape, and Telmor Soupriest Staff
The mauve of this set goes so nicely with the mauve versions of the Venthyr gear.

94) Trial of Style: Crimson Creations

Red Pointy Hat, Devouring Pellicle Shoulderpads (M), Phoenix-Wing Cloak, Scarlet Sin’dorei Robes, Voidweave Cilice, Infernoweave Boots, Twisted Visage
I got this theme first, and then again a round or two later, and this outfit placed 3rd both times. I participated in Trial of Style a few more times to get enough Tokens for all the new goodies I wanted to acquire, and a couple of those times I even placed 1st — but the outfits I made for the themes of those rounds were just minimally modified ensembles or previously saved outfits, so I won’t share them here.

93) Sable Sorceress

Sabellian’s Battlegear Cloth Armor with Jewel of the Firelord and Shadow Wing Focus Staff
Kamalia’s efforts to gain friendship with Sabellian have succeeded enough to allow her Mage friends to acquire the Sabellian’s Battlegear set. Sadly, Baron Sablemane in Outland hasn’t been updated to Sabellian’s Dragonflight Visage form model. Being something of a Mog nerd, I recognized this ensemble (minus the unique shoulders, of course) as a recolor of the Elite Cataclysmic Gladiator’s Silk Armor worn by Archmage Karlain in Legion Dalaran.
See also Blood Elf Mage #165.

92) The Titans’ Fool

Darkmoon Harlequin’s Bells with Pink Party Hat, Cloak of the Darkmoon Faire, Aluneth (hidden, tint 1)/Staff of Dominance/Blade of Savagery + Omega Orb*/Depraved Ritualist’s Kris + Dreamseeker Dandelion/Groady Goblin Wand + Night Courtier’s Lyre/Torch of Austen + Mistyreed Torch
The Darkmoon Harlequin’s Bells were the ultimate reward for the March 2023 Trading Post.
As I don’t like masks in general, I’ve chosen the most utterly obvious — and fortunately also at least somewhat coordinating — alternate hat. If there was a version of the Fae Revel Masque in some kind of gold tone, it would be a brilliant choice to wear with the Harlequin’s Bells, but alas, the purplish-silver just doesn’t quite work.

I’ve shown here weapon suggestions for all the weapon types a Mage can use; there are of course other great options for each weapon type. I’ve also shown my favorite option for a staff that one not fortunate enough to be a Mage could use.

If you simply must wear the set hat, the Felsoul Staff complements the style and has Darkmoon Faire-appropriate colors.

91) Radiant Court Visage

Radiant Court Attire with Onyx Glare-Reducers, Redeemed Inquisitor’s Mantle, Rapier of the Fearless, Bouquet of Dried Flowers, Eternal Black Diamond Ring, Stylish Black Parasol
My preferred use for the Dark Ranger customization continues to be Venthyr cosplay. Of course, the Venthyr know all about Lookin’ Good.
I’d been wanting to use this armor set with this combo of weapon and off-hand for awhile, and the March 2023 Trading Post theme, “Looking Good”, was a perfect opportunity to use it.

90) Rivulets

Tasteful Eyeglasses, Firewool Shoulderpads, Glassweb Robes, Gandling’s Gloves, Thick Ravager Belt, Priest’s Slippers, Expeditionary Staff
As so often happens, I discovered this combination of shoulders and robe while iterating out an outfit concept for which this wasn’t quite what I had in mind, but I liked it enough to jot it down in my Notebook of Mog ideas for use sometime later when I wanted a new outfit and didn’t have any immediate inspiration.
Although the Witchmother Drape coordinates very nicely with this robe,

I liked seeing the design of the back of the robe itself better.

89) The Rarest Beauty

Forever-Lovely Rose, Fireplume Plumage, Formal Dangui, Fireplume Claws, Fireplume Insignia, Duskhaven Boots, The Staff of Twin Worlds
The Formal Dangui requires dedicated vendor camping to obtain, as it has an exceptionally long restock time and when it is available, there is only one. I acquired mine many years ago, with a Druid alt created to dwell in Moonglade specifically for that purpose.

88) Continental Conclave

Crown of the Righteous, Pauldrons of Vile Corruption, Jadefire Drape, Felgrease-Smudged Robes (N), Wild Gladiator’s Silk Handguards, Enumerated Wrap, Wild Gladiator’s Treads of Prowess, Giorgio’s Caduceus of Pure Moods (LFR)
I don’t like the shoulders from the Hellfire Citadel Mage Tier set at all, so I was happy to discover how nicely these Battle for Azeroth dungeon set shoulders complemented this coloration of the robe.

87) Winter Banquet

Forsworn Aspirant’s Hood, Ravencourt Formal Mantle, Snowfall Shawl, Redeemed Inquisitor’s Robes, Redeemed Inquisitor’s Handwraps, Snowblind Cord, Cushioned Treads of Glory, Suen-Wo (LFR)
This is a kit where the Ren’dorei burgundy hair color does work beautifully.
This outfit started, like many of my outfits do, with a shoulders + robe combo and built from there. I appreciate how each expansion adds new colors to the Transmogrification palette, and I love discovering cross-expansion combinations.

The Drakewatcher’s Shoulderpads from Dragonflight also coordinate quite nicely with this robe.

86) Fireplume Embers

Shadra Silk Headband, Fireplume Plumage, Ragged Azsharan Sail Fragment, Fireplume Blouse, Widow’s Clutches, Corpse-Stitcher’s Cord, Fireplume Coverts, Ruby Slippers, Kamui’s Crystalline Staff of Wizardry
After I’d chosen this feathered hat, the ruby gloves and slippers were natural choices for the rest of the outfit. Their darker colors made me think of the glowing coals of a fire that has been burning for awhile.
Although the Ren’dorei burgundy is the closest hair color Eversong Elves have to pink or magenta, whenever I use it, it’s never as bright as I quite think it ought to be.

85) Winter Wanderer

Finely-Tailored Red Holiday Hat, Sandspinner Mantle, Emerald Shroud of Loyalty, Gaudy Winter Veil Sweater, Korthian Caretaker’s Mitts, Keyton’s Sash, Crazed Traveler’s Legwraps, Winter Boots, Jinyu Divining Rod
Kaelyla picked up these pants during her run of Uldaman: Legacy of Tyr during the Dragonflight pre-launch events. It occurred to me to try them with the Gaudy Winter Veil Sweater.
With Kaelyla’s void-tinged skin tone, it wasn’t immediately obvious that her legs were covered all the way down to the tops of her boots, so here she is with her natural skin tone.

84) Primal Cloudburst

Cloudburst Regalia with Stormbender Saber and Stormbender Scroll
Cloth set from the Primal Storms Dragonflight pre-launch event.
Apparently, and surely much to the disappointment of some, the appearance of the Cloudburst Robes as a tunic version of the Dragonflight Cloth questing gear during the 10.0 pre-patch was unintended, as about a week after the launch of the expansion itself, it changed appearances to a robe.

83) Covenant Alliance

Aspiring Aspirant’s Hood, Korthian Caretaker’s Mantle, Halo of the Selfless, Azure Dusk Vestments, Faewoven Handwraps, Korthian Caretaker’s Sash, Faewoven Leggings, Wild Gladiator’s Treads of Cruelty, Replica Lion’s Fang, Newly Departed Codex
With the lore segue phase of Patch 10.0 set to begin this week, I decided to bring Kaelyla home from the Shadowlands. She will experience the Alliance RP for and collect Cloth Cosmetics from the Dragonflight pre-patch events.

She will, with Kamalia, be one of my first toons to embark for the Dragon Isles. For the occasion, it seemed appropriate to make an “Alliance Blue” ensemble using mostly Shadowlands items.

82) Sunken Garden

Crown of the Seducer (LFR), Deeptide Amice, Vileweave Robes, Deeptide Cinch, Shattrath Jumpers, Plundered Oracle Fin Staff
A combination I passed through on the way to Khrysanthemina’s previous outfit and liked enough to jot down for later.

81) Miss Lyanna II

Hat of the Second Sister, Vir’naal Spaulders, Demon Commander’s Drape, Vileweave Robes, Sailing Master’s Sash, Virulent Gravetreaders, Scepter of Celebras*
Modified version of an outfit I originally designed three years ago for Kalaneia (see Warlock #56).
Serendipitously also works surprisingly well as a Sinfall Venthyr kit.
This sash is Alliance-only; for Horde characters, the Normal version of Aqu’sirr’s Swirling Sash works almost as nicely.
