Although this iconic Classic robe style is quite pretty on the computer screen, I think its multiple layers might be rather fussy to put on and to keep attractively arranged if it were a real life garment.

Every time I looked at the original Troll Action Battle Princess, I wished that I’d used the shoulders that match the headdress. So I decided to just do it, and maybe change a couple of other things about the outfit, as well. And this time, I could do it with my actual Troll Princesses, too!
With Kilauea, I Hid both gloves and bracers to show off her golden arm tattoos. With Kikimaia, I used the Loa Speaker’s Cuffs to emulate Kilauea’s golden arm tattoos. And with Kaelinda, I used the Aspiring Aspirant’s Handwraps to emulate Talanji’s own gloves.

Crap.
I remember crafting a Robe of Power for Cardwyn when she hit the mid-30s in Classic, and she ended up with a Necropile Robe when running Scholomance. (Hey, you take what you can get with the drops for T0 stuff.) While she ran Shadowfang Keep once or twice, I don’t think she ended up with the Robes of Arugal. Neither did she need the Infernalweave Robe, because by the time she got to the point where she could craft one she was wearing either the Robe of the Archmage or the T2 Chest.
It just feels weird to see them as pretty much the same for Retail, just colored differently, because I don’t recall the Robe of Power and Necropile robe being of similar design.
But yeah, the Robe of Power was very much a status type of robe given how much stuff you had to accumulate for it, and I can see where Card would look askance at having to put all of those doodads on just to wear the thing. The fictional Card would prefer something far more simplistic and less attention grabbing. And Neve… Well, Neve is a Mage who believes that “If I look good (and/or sexy) in it, I’m wearing it!” So yeah, Neve would wear the thing in a heartbeat, just to show off if nothing else.
I definitely felt a sense of accomplishment when I was able to craft a Robe of Power with the first of my Tailoring characters!
My other Tailors felt a sense of accomplishment at having done it, too. The Gnome and Tauren Robe of Power outfits are old enough that those characters had to have the item in their inventory to be able to Mog it — and I think they were probably actually wearing it as a legitimate equipped gear item, too.
